DEAR ABBY: I am a 12-year-old
boy and every day of my sum
mer vacation 1 stay home alone
and tvatch television. Sly mother
works all day long, Monday through
Friday, and she doesn't want me
leaving the house. I have nobody
to talk to except the dog, and if
somebody heard the way I carry
on a conversation with him they
would iiink I was nuts. I am not
supposed to let anybody in the
house. Can you tell me how 1 can
keep from getting bored?
A BOY UNNAMED
DEAR UNNAMED: Boredom is
only one of your problems. A boy
your. age needs fresh air, exercise
and '.the companionship of other
young people. Ask your, mother if
there isn't a day camp where she
can send you.' A boy your age
shouldn't be , cooped up in the
house all summer.
DEAR ABBY: My sister and I
have a friend who lives in the
same apartment building as we do. I
She went on a vacation and leftj
the keys to her apartment with
her gentleman friend so he could
water her plants and look after
her goldfish. She hadn't been gone
two days when this no-good gentle
man friend brought another wom
an into her apartment. All the
neighbors know about it and we
are afraid one of them will tell
her when she gets back. Should
vc tell her first, ur should we let
this man make a fool of her?
FRIENDS
DEAR FRIENDS: WHO was the
"other woman?" WHY did the
"gentleman" take her there? Un
less you are sure of the facts,
don't be the bearer of such news.
And if you ARE sure, even then

ding. The slam contract is most
optimistic and both North and
South have overbid, but we are
concerned only with the problem of
how to make the contract. Analy
sis of the lead and a review of
the bidding don't help. You have
to find some place to park three
little hearts and the only place, is
dummy's spade suit.
Do you see any combination
of cards that will let you make
your slam? If you do you are a
really fine player. If you don't then
look at the East and West hands
because they have been set- up
for that one combination.
You lead a spade and finesse
dummy's jack. If it loses you will
be down three, but you were down
two anyway. The finesse works.
Now you trump a low spade and
draw trumps, stopping in diim my.
The ace of spades', is .played and
West's king drops. Now- dummy's
last two spades are good and. you
can discard your three losing
hearts. Eventually you lose a dia
mond, but your slam has come
home.
