Central Douglas UF Campaign
Opens Sept; 9; Drive Goal Set
The Central Douglas United Fund
campaign for 1963-64 officially
gets under way Monday, Sept. 9.
The kickoff breakfast is schedul
ed at 7 a.m. at the Roseburg Elks
Temple. Guest speaker will be
Glenn Jackson, vice president of
Pacific Power & Light Co. and
state Highway commissioner from
Mcdford.
The goal for this year's cam
paign will be $69,936. Last year, it
was S68.550.
Campaign Chairman Hazel Sax
on today said she had appointed
five of the 12 division chairmen.
They are Ken Salmonson, business;
Bob Feldkamp,- advanced gifts;
Norman Thurnhofer, outlying
areas; Henry Flury, loggers' divi
sion; and Frank Riley, public em
ployes. The Central Douglas United Fund
area extends from Oakland south
to Dillard and takes in much of
Central Douglas County.

support a group of county agencies,

month. His route is Page and
Pioneer roads and the Winchester
Trailer Court. He has 112 cus
tomers. A real go-getter, Jerry has
only been with The News-Review
since October of 1962.
A "Newsboy of the Month" will
be named each month. Points are
gained on the basis of promptness
of his collections, initiative, cour
tesy and service. Points are
knocked off if (he newsboy's col
lections are late or if customers
complain that he is lacking in
courtesy or fails to give good
service.

the contest.
The two boys are among 23
News-Review newsboys who en
joyed a free deep sea fishing trip
to Winchester Bay Wednesday.
This is the third annual trip for the
boys who come from Canyonvillc,
Myrtle Creek. Winston, Green,
Winchester and Roseburg. There
were three boatloads of boys. After
the trip was over, they were treat
ed to hamburgers.
. Accompanying the boys were

Bob Schindler, Joe White and
Gerald Heibcl.

Frank Meier Dies
PORTLAND (UPI) Frank E.
Meier. 52. a grandson of the
founder of Meier and Frank store
here died Wednesday in Ireland,
according to word received here.
He was a son of the late Abe
Meier.
