Social Events In The East
Enjoyed By Oakland People
While on a vacation trip in the
cast, the Rev. and Mrs. Neil Brown
of Oakland were honored at a par
ty given by his parents for 14
close friends from Columbus, Ohio.
Also in Ohio, they attended a pic
nic at East Liberty. Thirty-three
relatives of Oie Rev. Mr. Brown's
mother were in attendance.
The Browns left Oakland June
23 for a month's vacation and trav
eled the mid-continent route to
Columbus. En route they visited
with the Rev. and Mrs. William
Stypes of Buffalo Grove Presby
terian Church of Lexington, Neb.,
the former a classmate of Brown.
They also visited with Mr. and
Mrs. John J. Buckley of Lincoln,
Neb., lifelong friends.
While in Ohio, the time was di
vided between the home of their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. William D.
Brown of Columbus and M r s.
Brown's father, Beatty Hawthorne,

Sandra Mario Grandv. daughter of
Jlr. and Airs. Robert Grandy of
Glendale, and Forrest K. Bryant
of Redding, Calif., son of Mr. and
Mrs. Sam Bryant of that city.
The bride was given in marriage
by her father. Elder Clarence Wil
liams officiated.
The bride wore a floor-length
gown of white satin brocade with
a full skirt that fell into side pleats
and swept into a cathedral train.
The gown was fashioned with a
scoop neckline and long sleeves
that tapered to points at Uic wrists.
Her elbow-length veil of silk illu
sion was held by a headpiece cen
tered with a white satin Dior rose.
The entire ensemble had been
made by the bride. She carried a
bouquet of while orchids with pink
rosebuds and white carnntions and
stephanotis.
Geri Bliss of Harrisburg was
maid of honor. She wore a gown
of peach bloom color with short
sleeves and scoop neckline. Her
flowers were white carnations with
pink centers.
Bridesmaids were Bonnie Bry
ant, sister of the bridegroom; Jan
ice Houghton of Medford and Mar
sha Moore of Seattle, Wash. Their
dresses and flowers were identical
to those of the maid of honor.
Dcvona Fry of Glendale was
flower girl.
Best man was the bridegroom's
"minor, Jai:k Bryant. Other at
tendants were Douglas Bryant, a

and blue shower Tuesday evening
in honor of Mrs. Donald buggers.

Huge arrangements of pink and
blue hydrangeas were used for
decoration. The gift table was cov
ered in white with an interesting
step arrangement at one end upon
which had been placed several
colorful toys. The gifts were plac
ed in and around a pink doll era
die.
Several games were played with
prizes awarded to Mrs. David
Willis and Mrs. Dclmar Elliott.
Mrs. Lorentz read an appropriate
article.

gregation. At Pittsburg they vis
ited Dr. William F. Ituschbiirgh,
general presbyter of Pittsburg
Presbytery.
They returned by way of Hie
northern route, through upper
Michigan, Wisconsin and Minneso
ta and on to Washington. They
spent a night at Yakima with
friends.
The Browns traveled nearly

Wilbur and John Bob Hanley of
Roseburg. The 10 a.m. single ring
ceremony was held at St. Francis
Xavier Catholic Church in Suther
lin, the Itev. J. J. Linehan offi
ciating. The bride's parents are Jlr. and
Mrs. Francis E. Welty of Wilbur.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Ralph Hanley of Rose
burg. Church decorations included bas
kets of gladioli, fern and baby's
breath at the altar. Wedding music

Dressed in light blue taffeta
street length dresses were the
bride's attendants: Barbara Welty,
sister of the bride, as maid of
honor; and bridesmaids Margaret
Begley and Eileen Welty. another
sister. Their hats were made of
light blue net and flowers. Their
slippers and gloves were white,
and their bouquets were of white
carnations.
Best man was Orville Gaylor.
Ushering the guests were Ralph E.
Rudzik of Albany and Jack Mor
gan, brothers-in-law of the bride.
