Couple Held In Jail
Tell Intentions To Wed
EASTLAND. Tex. (UPI) - Bill
Splawn, 40, and the 37 -year -old
woman who, with only a few
stitches on, helped him escape
from an Idaho jail, want to get
married.

'She and Snlawn were arrested re-
cently in Lewlaton, Idaho, and
. held for Texaa authorities, wno
- wanted them on a charge of rob-
blng a grocery In Ranger, Tex.,
March 8.
Several dayt ago Mrs. Jones,
' with only her pantlet on, slugged a
"jailer with a bar of soap in a
shirt sleeve and freed Splawn.
-They fled into the street.
They confronted motorist who
was so shocked by Mrs. Jones'
lack of clothes that he abandoned
hit car and fled. They drove Into
the country where Mrs. Jones
dressed herself by burglarizing a
farmhouse.
They were captured 24 hours
later. Sheriff Lee Horn and
Ranger Earl Stewart later return
ed them to Eastland. Splawn
said he will plead guilty to the
grocery store robbery but he de
nied that Mra. Jonet had anything
to do with it. Ha admitted she
drove the getaway car, however
Mrs. Jones tald they plan an
Informal wedding. If there It one,
It probably will be held In the
Eastland County Jail.

over earnings for the first half
of 1962, company officials said
Tuesday.
Earnings per share were 85
cents for both periods.

Tenmile Fire Dept.
Sets Benefit Social
The Tenmile Volunteer Fire De
partment met Friday at the home
of Fire Chief Ted Benedict and
made final plans for the Ice cream
social to be held as a benefit for
the department. Date was set for
Sunday, Aug. 4, from 3 to 9 p.m.
at the park on the K. D. Lockwood
ranch in Tenmile. According to
Mrs. Walter Coats, correspondent,
those attending should turn off
Heston Hoad at the Lockwood
Road sign and follow markers
which will be erected.
Tickets are now on sale at Ten-
mile business establishments and
at Winston and will also be avail
able at the park Sunday. Ticket
holders will be eligible for door
prizes and three drawings will be
held, Mra. Coats said.
Caket and pies for the social will
be donated and those who cannot
attend and still with to donate
may call Mrs. Don Hinch Jr., Mrs.
Lyndon Lengele or the Tenmile
Store for pickup.
