Wide Choice
Modern Invention and technolog
ical advances will add new jobs
to the wide span filled by the 25
million women working today.
who constitute about one-third of
the total U.S. labor force.
Within the next decade, says
the U.S. Department of Labor,
some 30 million women are ex
pected to be holding down jobs.

school, and decide early on a fu
ture career will have a better
chance for job fulfillment, edu
cators point out.
More professionally educated
women are needed now to fill
jobs in the home economics field,
observes a home economist, and
more will be needed in the fu
ture. Also in demand will be
those with specific training and
skills in non-professional areas.
One group of young women!
have a head start. They arc 411 j
Club members enrolled in a home '
economics program. At some
time during club membership, re
ports the National 4-11 Service
Committee, nearly every one of
the 1.3 million girls enrolled in
4-H receives some training in her
dual role of future homemaker
and career woman.
Sewing, meal planning, nutri
tion, home management, interior
decoration, fashion and consumer
education are among the projects
in whicn 4-H Club members par
ticipate. They start in 4-H as young as
9 years of ago, and many re
main for as long as 10 years.

guests at Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth
Peters' home.
On Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. Peters
had a barbecue for their guests.
Included were the Morehouses
and Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bordeaux
of Riddle. Mr. and Mrs. More
house resided in Canyonville un
til they moved five years ago.
Guests at the Richard Pcttcr-
son home were Mr. anil Mrs. Rob
ert Kczsely of Eureka, Calif., and
Mr. and Mrs. Lorcn Petlerson of
Seattle, Wash.
Mrs. Richard Petterson and
children recently returned after
spending thrco and a half weeks
staying with her husband who is
going to summer school at Hum'
bold! State College in Areata,
Calif., and visiting her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lake of
Eureka, Calif.
Recent guests at the home of
the Norman Hansons were Mr. and
Mrs. Allen Fcldncr of Billings,

college. Fcldner teaches at East
ern Montana College. The two
families both have twin sons the

which this year will help 12 girls
with their college education by
way of $500 national clothing
scholarships.
General Foods Corporation will
give six $500 scholarships to top
ranking club members in the 4-H
foods-nutrition program.
Both firms will bring to Chica
go as delegates to the week-long
National 4-11 Club Congress state
award winners from all 50 states
and Tuerto Itieo 102 in all.
Nancy Stewart Claims
High Grades At School
Nancy Lou Stewart, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. P. Gordon Stew
art, 217 W. Chapman, Roseburg,
achieved a 3.583 grade point av
erage and made the spring se
mester honor roll at Willametto
University, according to regis
trar Kichard Yocom.
Miss Stewart graduated from
Roseburg Senior High in 1950 and
received a bachelor of music ed
ucation degree from Willamette
this June. She is a member of
Alpha Chi Omega sorority and af
filiated with Mu Phi Epsilon mu
sic honorary and Alpha Lambda
Delta scholastic honorary.

Actually, South could have ruffed
with the ten of diamonds and still
made the hand provided he did not
then lead out dummy's ace, hut
his line of play was simpler by
