at the First Presbyterian Church,

the anniversary of the day the
couple became engaged.
The bride is the daughter of .Mr.
and Mrs. Victor Bean. The bride
groom's parents arc Mr. and Mrs.
Lynn Cooper of Roseburg.
Yellow and white daisies and
stock were used to decorate the
altar, together with silver candel
abra. A lovely white wedding can

Miss Pam Ronk of Myrtle Creek
was soloist, singing "0 Perfect
Love" and "The Lord's Prayer."

The bride was given in marriage
by her father. She was lovely in
her floor-length gown of white sat
in which featured a train orna
mented with lace. She wore a short
bouffant veil secured by a jeweled
Dutch crown. Her crescent-shaped
bouquet was composed of daisies,
pale yellow roses and ivy.

Donald R. Dickinson was best
man for the bridegroom. Ushering
was done by Bill Johnson and Fred
Wolford and Larry Leonard, both
of Oakland.
For her daughter's wedding, Mrs.
Bean wore a smart light blue cot
ton dress with scalloped nppliqucd
neckline. Her accessories were
white. Mrs. Cooper, mother of the
bridegroom, wore a becoming light
blue dress with matching jacket
and beige accessories.
Following the wedding, the
bride's parents were host and host
ess at a reception at the church.
Daisy bouquots were used in dec
oration to complement the lovely
four-tiered white cake, also orna
mented with daisies.
The couple honeymooned at Lake
Laurel and are now at nomc in
Roseburg. For going away, the
bride wore a beige hop sacking
dress with qrystal jewelry and
white accessories.
The bride was graduated from
Roseburg High School and is em
ployed as a legal secretary for
Bernau & Wilson, attorneys. The

Visiting Explorers

Elkton Boy Scouts camped Fri
day and Saturday nights at Beck
ley's picnic grounds and spent Sat
urday cleaning up the grounds and
swimming while waiting for a
group of Explorer Squadron Scouts
from Fullerton, Calif., who were
canoeing the Umpqua River from
Roseburg to Scottsburg. Seven
boys, Dennis Cooper, John Simp
son, Gary Lawrence, Paul Whit
nice, Allan Stcarn, Douglas Jones
and Charles Jones and their two
leaders, Chifford Maughan and
Roy Cooper, made the trip in four
canoes.
The Elkton Scouts and their fam
ilies entertained the Explorer's
Saturday night also at Hockley's
picnic grounds with a potluck sup
per. Marvin Jcffcoat, Warren Ba
ker and Jim Haines furnished mu
sical entertainment for the evening.
The Elkion troop was presented
a certificate expressing friendship
from the visiting Explorer's.
Sunday, the visitors and their
leaders attended the Elkton Chris
tian Church in a group. They left
in their canoes Sunday afternoon
to continue their journey. Many lo
cal people watched the canoes at
Sawyer's Rapids while the scouters
attempted to shoot the rapids. Only
one of the four canoes made the
rapids on the first try.

nic is scheduled for Sunday, July
21, in Umpqua Park. All railroad
ers, active or retired, are invited
to attend, along with their famil
ies and friends. Co-chairmen of
the popular event for this year are

tendance last year included 67 pen
sioned "rails" and a crowd of
about 500 persons in all.
Those attending are asked to
bring a basket lunch. The commit
tee of local Southern Pccific em
ployes who sponsor this event will
furnish free ice cream, pop, cof
fee and other refreshments. There
will be free pony rides and games
for the children,' awards for pen
sioners and drawings for a num
ber of gifts.

plans as early as possible. Open
ing night is sold out, but good seat
ing remains for all other perform
ances. Current figures Indicate that ad
vance sales are still running well
ahead of last year and very close
to the all-time record year of 1961,
when 47.734 persons filled the Eli
zabethan Theatre to 99 per cent of
its 42-night capacity.
1963 productions will run for a
longer period of time than ever
before (46 nights, as compared to
44 nights last year). Mail orders,
Ashland window sales, and the
branch box office network (through
out Oregon and Northern Califor
nia) all indicate a rising interest i
in the festivals 23rd season of
Shakespeare under the - Oregon
stars.
Meantime, rehearsals have enter
ed - their final phases. Technical
and costume crews are working
around the clock to mount the four
richly appointed plays in time for
four successive opening nights;
July 24 through 27. Following the
four promieres, the repertory will
then rotate nightly until Septem
ber 7, allowing visitors as al
ways to "Stay Four Days, See
Four Plays." .
Plays to be presented this year
are ".Merry Wives of Windsor,"
"Romeo and Juliet," "Love's La
bour Lost," and "Henry the Fifth."

10,000 VISIT EXHIBIT
VIENNA, Austria (UPI) More
than 50,000 Bulgarians visited an
American plastics exhibit in Sofia
on its opening day, U.S. diplo
matic sources said recently.
The exhibition was first shown
in Russia in 1961 and later was
put on display in Romania and
Yugoslavia. It opened in Sofia on
July 6.

about disowning a relative? My
mother is a beaut. She won $600
at the races on a Saturday, and
Sunday she married a man who
works at the track. She's 62 and
he's 44. She dyes his hair the
same color red she dyes her own
and thinks everyone turns around
to look at them because they're
so good-looking. I think she's gone
into her second childhood. They
are positively nauseating together.
