New Wayside Park Opens Near Kellogg
Another park in the Douglas
County Parks Department system
is ready for visitors.
It is the Edgar S. and Emma
Madison Wayside near Kellogg.
The 1.6 acre forested wayside on
the Utnpqua River is a tract do

Madisons. It is part of their ranch
property. It was put into usable
shape last week.
The park site was formerly a
private ferry landing where the
Madison's operated their own ferry
up to 1928. They said they con
veyed the land for a park so others
might enjoy its beautiful setting
along the river forever.
The Madisons could be consider
ed pioneers by the younger genera
tion, having lived continuously on
their ranch since 1897. They have
lcontinued to live in their neat,
er they acquired the land from the
original donation land grantee.
They and their sons and grand
sons still own and maintain more
than 500 acres.
The wayside is located on Bul

Now Let- Him HEAR You!

By ABIGAIL VANBUREN
DEAR ABBY: I am 30, married
and nothing special to look at. I've
been called the "wholesome" type.
1 Last week my husband and I were
playing bridge in the home of an
other couple. My husband went out
to our car to get something and
the other woman went into the kit
chen and, without warning, the
husband grabbed me, held ine close
and tried to kiss me! I was shock
ed, but managed to cover up with
out making a scene. I thought I
made it plain that I did not go in
for that sort of thing. L AST NIGHT
we four went to a movie. While
walking down the dark aisle, I
felt someone pinch me but good!
I thought it was my husband at
first, but soon discovered it was
this man again. I did not invite
these advances and don't like it.
How can I let him know how I feel
. wilhout hurting his wife?
THE WHOLESOME TYPE
DEAR WHOLESOME: Ha knows
how you FEEL you hava to let
him know how you THINK. When!
you hava about 20 seconds alont
with him tell him if h. doasn't cut
out tfca monkey business you'll tell 1
his wife. And if your husband is
bigger than ha it tell him you'll
tell your husband.
DEAR ABBY: Last week my 17-
ycar old son went to a doctor be-1
cause of a skin condition. He is
supposed to go again next week, I
but he refuses. My husband final
ly got it out of him. It seems that
tiie doctor wanted him to have a
lamp treatment. He had to lie un-,
dor some lamps for about ten min-!
iites without any clothes on at all.
The nurse was in the room the
whole time. He was terribly em
barrassed bv this because the nurse
was about 25. So that's why he
refuses to Ro back. I think we
should call the doctor and ask him
if he can't give the treatment him
self from now on. My husband says
our son is just being stubborn and
we should make him go. He said
the doctor will think we are crazy
if we call and ask him to change
the way he does thinps in his of
fice. We three have been fighting
over this all week. What do you
think?
A YOUNG MAN'S MOTHER
DEAR MOTHER: Call tha doctor
and explain. He'll undarstind.
DEAR ABBY: Re that paperboy
who signed himself DISGUSTED
WITH PEOPLE because soma took
newspapers from his honor rack
and dropped buttons, paper clips
and slugs into the slot instead of
money: You appealed to the public
to be honest on the grounds that
its the paperboy who's getting
cheated not the newspaper com
pany, is it less reprehensible to
cheat the newspaper company than
it is to cheat the newsboy?
Every day juries return unfair
verdicts against large corporations
and insured defendants because the
"big boys" can afford to pay.
The public should keep two things
in mind: (1) The moral issue is
the same whether the victim is
rich or poor. (2) The "little man"
will eventually pick up the tab, ei
ther in higher consumer costs or
in increased insurance rates.
CONCERNED
Csnfidtntial to "JUST ME"( You
ara mistaken. If you want advico
through this column, it is NOT '
necessary to sign your name. (Use
"Worried", "Upset," or "Just;
Me.") But those who want a par-j
sonal reply should sign their

ba strictly confidential). How else
could my reply reach you?
