Of Roses Now
In New Building
Another new building which has
been under construction in Rose
burg in one of the biggest building
spurts in the city's history has
been completed and occupiud.
This is Wilson's Chapel of the
Roses, which was moved Thurs
day from the former location at
1035 SE Oak Ave. to its new build
ing at 965 W. Harvard Ave.
Meredith Wilson reports t h e
building is finished and the move
was completed Thursday. The
parking area has been blacktopped
and most of the landscaping taken
care of. Jack Mathis was general
contractor.
The new building will offer new
modern facilities, as well as off
street parking for automobiles. The
location is away from the city
traffic congestion, Wilson points
out.
The former building has been
sold to the Pacific Power & Light
Co., which plans to raze the struc
ture and erect a new business of
fice on the site.

Miss Janet Inman returned to
her home in Roseburg Tuesday
night from the University of Ore
gon at Eugene, where she has just
completed her junior year. She
has been living with her grand
mother, Mrs. C. L. Inman, in
Springfield while attending school.
She will return the mid-part of
next week to Springfield, where
she will be employed.

Vacation Planned
Miss Porter was cheerleader

four years. She plans to vacation
with her maternal grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. John Schaak, on
their extensive grain and cattle
ranch located in Montana near the
Wyoming line. Upon her return, she
will work in the Tiller Store owned
by her parents for the remainder
of the summer. On the Montana
trip, she will be accompanied by
her cousin, Roxa Ann Aker, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. George Aker
Jr. of Riddle, formerly of Tiller,
a 1963 graduate of Riddle High
School.

sons made a trip over the Me
morial weekend to Washington to
visit Mr. and Mrs. Chet Haney who
recently moved from Tiller to the
Lake Wenatchee Ranger Station
when Haney was transferred there.
En route, they stopped at Madras
to spend the night with Mr.' and
Mrs. Jack Stone. Mrs. Stone js an
aunt of Mrs. Looney.
Ranger and Mrs. John 0. Wil
son and sons drove to Leaburg Sat
urday to visit Mr, and Mrs. R. D.
Swartzlander, who joined them for
a drive to McKenzie Bridge.

home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles L.
Redding at the Tiller Ranger Sta
tion. The Carlsons formerly resid
ed at Tiller when Carlson was as

May Wet Month
May rainfall recorded at the Til
ler Ranger station totaled 4.0S inch
es, most of it falling during the
first half of the month. Records
show that only 1960 of the last six
years had a wetter May, when
4.09 inches were recorded, account
ing for a total of 24.56 for the
first five months of that year. To

Vacation Schools
Planned At Drain
Two Drain churches have sched
uled Daily Vacation Bible Schools
to date.
The Church of Christ will begin
its school June 10 and continue
classes through June 21, using the
theme "Christ's Way, My Way."
Classes will be available for nurs
ery tots and for the age groups
up to and including teenagers,
from Monday through Friday of
both weeks, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Methodist Schedule
The Methodist Church will also
begin its school on June 10 for a
one-week period, from 9 to 11:30
a.m. Children from 4 years of age
through the sixth grade are eligi
ble to attend.
Theme for the school will be
"The Widening Relationship." The
vacation study will include series
of lectures on Christian relation
ships around the world. On Thurs
day, June 13, Regula Lerbcr, an
exchange' student from Switzer
land who is attending Creswell
School, will give a talk on her na
tive country from 10:30 to 11:30.
Anyone interested may attend this
session.

fund budget adopted by the 1963
legislature totaled $404,259,292,
Freeman Holmer, director of the
Department of Finance and Ad
ministration, said today.
This compared with the $-105,
269,737 recommended by the gov
ernor last Dec. 1. During the ses
sion the governor's recommenda
tion was adjusted to S403.870.909
because of changes in institution
populations, a revised school cen
sus, and changes in federal
matching ratios.
Holmer said the legislature in
creased general fund expendi
tures over the adjusted recom
mendations by a net amount of
$388,383.
He said the chief increase was
the substitution of $11,500,000 in
general fund expenditures for
higher education buildings, in lieu
of the recommended expenditure
from bond revenues.
Other significant increases In
cluded $676,000 additional for the
legislative assembly and an addi
tional $450,000 for the state emer
gency Board.
Holmer said the chief reduction
was in basic school support,
where it wan decided to use cur
rent revenues of the common
school fund instead of investing j requirements for 1963-65 by J6,-
Uiem. this reduced general fund 1 032,660.
