group in Washington to help them
get higher prices for their catch.
The Seafarer's Union an
nounced that its 16 locals would
be represented by an organization
known as the National Conference
of Fishermen and Fish Cannery
Workers. The group will attempt
to remove a provision of an anti
trust law that bars fishermen's
unions from bargaining on prices
of fish before they sail on a voy

Railroads Get Rate
SALEM (UPI) Lower rail
rates on eastbound shipments of
potatoes from Eastern Idaho are
putting Oregon potato growers at
a "distinct competive disadvan
tage," the Oregon public utility
commissioner's office said Wed
nesday. Railroads serving Oregon were
urged by James E. Singleton,
state transportation director, to
grant equally lower rates on po
tatoes from Eastern, Central and
Southern Oregon.
Singleton said that last March,
Eastern Idaho growers were
given a general cut of 13 cents
per hundred pounds on carloads
of 45,000 pounds.
Singleton sent the request for
an Oregon cut to four railroads
