Although Tom Hobbs was plagued with control trouble in the second game, he held Springfield to one hit, struck out five and walked ing seven. Jerry Boucock took over for Hobbs in the last inning and held the visitors scoreless. Lyle Charon came in to hurl the final three innings and pick up the win. Charon gave up one bit, struck out four and walked one. Early Lead Springfield went ahead early in the first game, scoring three runs in the opening inning. Springfield collected three of its six hits in this frame, with Joel Hcacock's triple being the big blow. Finally getting to Dick Pcglow, Roseburg scored five runs in the fourth inning. With one out Dennis Arana walked and stole second base. Jim Bcamcr singled to drive borne Arana, and moved to second on an error on Bob Manning's grounder. Glen Fortune singled, driving In Beamer. Manning mov ed to third and Fortuno to second on the play at tho plate. Lance Cascboer grounded to the first baseman with the throw to the plate getting Manning. Case beer stole second. Both Fortune and Casebeer scored on a single by Charon. Before the inning ended, Charon scored on a single by Phil Thormin. Roseburg Opened Scoring Roseburg started the scoring ear ly in the second game. Thormin walked to start the game, and mov ed to third on a baso hit by Gordon Avery. Avery moved to second on the throw in. Both runners scored on an infield error. Ten men came to the plate in the fifth inning as Roseburg exploded for seven runs. Doug Coplin reach ed base on a two-base outfield mis cue, went to third on a pop foul and scored on an infield ground out. Manning singled to left and scored when Beamer hit a fly which the outfielder dropped for a four-base error. French kept the rally going with a single to center, and advanced to third on a single by Hobbs. Hobbs moved to second on the throw in. French scored and Hobbs went to third on a passed ball. Thormin walked setting the stage for Avery's base-clearing triple to left-center field. Avery continued around from third when the relay was hobbled by the shortstop. Four In Sixth Four more runs scored for Rose burg in the sixth inning. Jon Burn- ham laced a bases-loaded, base clearing double for the big hit of the frame. Springfield got its only runs and its only hit in the sixth inning. After Rich Hand walked, Dennis Baldridge rapped a triple to score Hand. Baldridge scored Spring field's final run on a ground out. Hobbs had a perfect 2-2 at the plate, while Beamer hit 3-7. Burn- ham led in RBIs with three men scoring on his double. Continuing league play, Roseburg will travel to North Eugene Tues day to play a single nine-inning game at 4 p.m. Wednesday the team plays a non-counter at North Bend, and Friday returns home to clash with the always-tough South Eugene team in a single league counter. The Fremont team made the best of 11 walks issued by the Myr tle Creek pitchers to stay ahead throughout the game. Bolh Fremont's and Mvrtle Crock's six hits were divided evenly between the players. United Press International Maybe the Los Angeles Angels of the American League didn't need veteran Joe Nuxhall but the San Diego Padres of the Pacific Coast League are mighty pleased to have him. Nuxhall, who was recently giv en his outright release by the An gels, Suaday night picked up his third straight win for the Padres as he helped them sweep a dou ble header from Tacoma and move into second place in tne PCL standings. Nuxhall spaced eight hits over an 11-inning ro-ite in the opener as the Padres won it, 3-2. In the nightcap, John Tsitouris turned in a two-hit pitching job to pace a 5-0 victory.
