Education Chancellor To Address Seniors Roy E. Liueallen, chancellor of the Oregon State System ol Higher Education, will address 280 grad uating seniors of Roseburg High School at 'Commencement exercis es June 4. Iieuallen received undergradu ate training at Pacific University where he majored in physical edu cation. He holds a master of sci ence degree in higher education. After graduation, he became a high school science instructor for four years. His teaching career RHS Sophs Hold Show Of Talent Members of the Roseburg High School Sophomore Class held a tal ent show last week in the school auditorium. The show was in competition with previous shows put on by the Junior and Senior Classes to earn points for a Class Cup to be given at the end of the year, ac cording to the high school. John Burnham played the part of an astronaut wno was me guest of a queen, Kathy Kieth, and princesses Ann Walton, Jo V a n Krevelcn, Barbara Butler, Beth Orjala, Lynn Andes, Jenifer Bab bitt, and Nancy Monk. Dennis Frank played the part of a greeter announcing the names of each participant. One of the highlights of the performance was an instrumental duet with Dwight Anderson playing the guitar and Rick Keasey on the drums. Andy Chitwood, Jim Beamer, John Erickson, and John Cox did a pantomime of the "Twist." Ma rie Savage sang "Soldier Boy" and Barbara Martin sang "Getting to Know You." Lorraine Hanlcy and Linda Ow ens twirled batons and Sandy Ste wart did a ballet. A girls trio consisting of Mi chelle LeBeau, Ann Sanders, and Peggy Harmon sane "Moon River and Dave Hooper, Gerg Heinz, and Doug Glover formed a boys trio, Ralph Sallee ended the perform ance playing his trumpet while John Nichols displayed bis talent in fire eating. Sewing Lessons Ready For Summer Locally Sewing lessons will be given be ginning June 12, to approximately 30 girls, in the Roseburg High School Homcmaking Department. The lessons will be sponsored by the Roseburg Singer Sewing Ma chine Co., and will be open to Douglas County girls in the age groop of 10 to 21 years. Several sessions will be held dur ing the summer consisting of eight 2VVhour lessons, twice a week for a month. During this time, those taking tho lessons will complete a gar ment and then have a chance to enter a local contest. These events are followed by baccalaure ate on June 3 and commencement on June 4. Barbara Morgan, a graduate from Willamette University, heads the list of new teachers hired. Miss Morgan will teach in the Business Education Department along with Lowell Baird, a graduate from Portland State College. Koyce Gordon, a transfer from Fremont Junior High School, will teach mathematics. Darrel Kady, now obtaining his masters degree at the University of Illinois, will serve as head of the History Department and teach regular and advanced history classes. Sheila Cannell, a graduate from Portland State, will teach French part-time and biology, and Wil liam Ardiss, also from Portland State, will teach chemistry. Last of tne seven is Paul Ben- ninghoff, a major in industrial arts at Oregon State University, who will conduct courses in metals and mechanical drawing. According to Ralph Teters, RHS principal, six more teachers will need to be hired to prepare for the increase in enrollment expect ed next year.
