Seat In Senate
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) John
Davis Lodge, whose political back
ground includes a governorship,
an ambassadorship, and two
lerms in Congress, has decided to
take a shot at the Senate.
Lodge, 58, had Republicans
stewing for months trying to de
termine if he would make a hid
for the Republican gubernatorial
nomination but he moved quickly
to enter the competition for the
Senate nomination when it sud
denly became available.
Lodee announced his candidacy
recently in Westport, his home
town.
Another candidate tor the sena
torial nomination is Rep. Horace
Seely-Brown Jr. of the 2nd Dis
trict. Also in the running is a former
congressman-at-lac, Antoni N.
Sadlak of Kockviilu.
Until Wednesday, the GOP
choice for senator was incumbent
Prescott Bush of Greenwich. But
Bush suddenly announced he
would not seek re-election to a
third term.
Lodge. Connecticut's governor
from 1930 to 1954, returned last
year from a six-year stint as am
bassador to Spain. Before serving
as governor, he was in Congress
two terms. He is the brother of
former United Nations Ambassa
dor Henrv Cabot Lodge.
