The Los Angeles Dodgers, ap parently on the move, whipped the Cards 8-5 Friday night and replac ed St. Louis in second place in the National League standings. Perhaps of even more impor tance, however, was an injury to veteran Cardinal outfielder Minnie Minoso, carried from the field on a stretcher after crashing headlong into a concrete fence while chasing a fly ball. Plans For 1962 Shrine Grid Classic Told By Thompson Roscburg football coach Roy Thompson and the four Indians named to the state all-star team for the 15th annual Shrine All-Star game were special guests of the Roseburg Shrine Club Friday at a dinner meeting in the Coral Room of the Umpqua Hotel. Thompson, who led the Indians to the 1961 state championship with a 250 win over Beaverton, will serve as head coach for the Aug. 11 classic. The Koseburg coach in troduced Bob Roark, Mike Fairy, Kenny King and Ray Palm, the four Indians who will play on the state tram, to attending club mem bers and guests. Roark played offensive center and defensive end for the Tribe. Klury was the hard driving full back that gave the Indians power. Don Lowe, No. 1 seeded singles ace, provided the Tribe with power in the singles by breezing through three straight matches. Lowe start ed off in the opening round with a pair of 6-0 victories over Reed Rosling of The Dalles. In his three matches Lowe allowed only three points scored against him. Lowe will be in action in the quarterfi nals today. Dough Green and Don Harris kept the Indians' title hopes alive in the doubles by going undefeat ed through the opening rouuds. Rock Creek Logjam Tour Set May 16th All contractors interested in bid ding on the removal of a log jam which is threatening the Rock Creek fish hatchery are invited by the engineering department of the Oregon State Game Commission to accompany it on an urspecton tour. The tour will leave the Rock Creek hatchery at 2 p.m. May 16. Recently it has been discovered that a large log jam, located ap proximately one mile upstream from the hatchery, could destroy the water system at the hatchery if it should break free during high water. Such a disaster would wipe out the entire year's fish produc tion at the hatchery stated Jim Vaughn, supervisor of the South west Regional Game Commission office located at Roseburg. Walker handculted uie fiiaica ia the five inning nightcap, 1-0, after the Trojans had won the seven-inning opener, 3-2. Walker's team mates provided him with the win ning margin by scoring a single run in the bottom of the fifth frame. The no-hitter by Walker was the first ever pitched by a Douglas chucker, and is the only one re corded to date this year in UVL play. Two Walks In his near perfect effort Walk er issued two walks and one run ner reached first by virtue of an error. The Pirates threatened to score in the top of the fifth when an error and a walk put two run ners on base. However, Waiker took over to get the lead runner on a fielder's choice, then a double . play ended the inning. Walker recorded his no-hitter without getting a strikeout. He had the Glendale batters hitting direct ly at his fielders. Rajalie Gutier rez was on the mound for the Pi rates. The Trojans tried to squeeze the winning run in, but two attempts failed. The first time the batter stepped across the plate and was called out, sending the runner back to third. On the second squeeze at tempt the runner was caught at the plate. Smith Scored Larry Smith, who had reached second on the error on his liner to the outfield, crossed the plate to give the Trojans their win when Dick Davidson singled between third and short. In the opening game the Pirates scored twice in the fifth inning, but fell short of the Trojans who had scored single tallies in the second, third and fourth frames. Ray Shep herd was the winning pitcher. The Trojans made use of seven Glen dale errors to score the three runs. The double win gave the Trojans a final mark of 2-8 in league play, while the Pirates wound up in a tie with Myrtle Creek for third place in the UVL standings with a 4-6 record.
