Germond Hurts Two-Hltterr
Holds Bulldogs Scoreless
Wayne Germond tossed a bril l The Bulldogs ended Oakland's
liant two-hitter Thursday as the
Oakland Oakers shut out the invad
ing Sutherlin Bulldogs, 5-0, in a
non-league diamond duel.
Germond limited the Bulldogs to
two singles in working the full five
innings for the win. Germond's
teammates backed him with a
single run in the third, then broke
loose for four insurance runs in the
fourth.
Blaze of Glory
Sutherlin went out in a blaze of
glory, leaving the bases loaded.
The big threat came with one out
when the Bulldogs managed to fill
the bases. However a fly to left
field and a grounder to the second
baseman ended the threat before
any damage could be done.
Oakland's first run came in the
third inning when Lloyd Lewis
walked, stole second and third
and scored on a Sutherlin error.
In the fourth frame the Oakers
started a rally, with one out. Larry
Sorenson reached first on an er
ror, then moved up on Steve
Perry's single. Dave Roadman
collected a base rap to load the
bases and set the scene for Derold
Holcomb's base blow that drove in
two runs. The Oakers kept going
as Lewis beat out a bunt which
scored Roadman and Cannon fol
lowed with a bunt single scoring

nesota's Metropolitan Stadium
Thursday, forcing postponement
of the Twins' home opener against
Los Angeles as inclement weather
continued to disrupt the first week
of the 1962 baseball season. .
The Twins, forced to call off
their Friday curtain-raiser before
the home folks, were hopeful of
getting the game in Saturday, but
club officials were not overly op
timistic.
Elsewhere, rain forced post
ponement of ' the Detroit and
Washington game, held down
crowds at Kansas City and Chi
cago and threatened to mar other
home openers Friday at Detroit,
New York, Baltimore and Cleve
land.
The Tigers and Senators were
rained out for the second day and
Detroit faced the prospect of sit
ting it out once moro when the
weather man forecast snow flur
ries for their home opener with
the New York Yankees.
The Athletics and White Sox
meanwhile,, got their games in
Thursday but the people filling
both parks could have been easily
seated in a small indoor arena.

last spring exhibition baseball
game today against Columbus.
The Beavers now have a 10-
spring record after losing a 5-4
decision to Toronto Thursday. The
loss came because of an unearned
Toronto run in the tenth inning.
