Liz Returns Hejae Alone From Date With Burton
ROME (AP) Elizabeth Taylor
went home alone from i night
club date with Richard Burton
early today and an onlooker sid
the film beauty had tears in her
eyes.
An unidentified friend escorted
the actress to her car, while Bur
ton remained at their table. La
ter the actor, who has been Miss
Taylor's leading man both on and
off the movie set since she parted
from singer Eddie Fisher, walked
out of the club alone and went to
a nearby bar.
One photographer said Burton
had a bruise and swelling on his

forehead which had not been seen
there the night before.
Through a studio spokesman,
Burton denied he had suffered
any injury to his forehead. The
spokesman also quoted Burton as
saying there had been no spat be
tween him and Miss Taylor.
The couple arrived separately
earlier in the evening at a hotel
cocktail lounge and then went on
to the night club together. Miss
Taylor, 30, brought two of her pet
Yorkshire terriers along. The dogs
went home with her.
Burton today was reported at
work on the set of "Cleopatra,"
in which he plays Marc Antony
to Miss Taylor's Cleopatra.
The studio said Miss Taylor was
not at work but might be on the
set this afternoon.
A Vatican weekly newspaper
meanwhile attacked Miss Taylor
for her marital record and warned
that she may end up an "erotic
wanderer, forever without a safe
haven."
A studio spokesman said the ac
tress would not comment on the
editorial lashing given her by
L'Osservatore Delia Domenica
the Sunday Observer. Miss Taylor
was reared a Christian Scientist
but converted to Judaism after
the death of her third husband,
producer Mike Todd.

Five Counties
To Daylight T
By THE 'ASSOCIATED PRESS
Five counties in Northwest Ore
gon officially switch to Daylight
Saving Time April 29.
And many other areas of the
state, as they did last summer,
will make the switch unofficially,
either at the same time or a little
later.
Multnomah County and the four
that surround it Washington,
Clackamas, Hood River and Co
lumbia were authorized by the
1961 legislature to switch to the
fast time if they wanted to.
But many other places, mostly
on action by chambers of com
merce or city councils, have de
cided to move their clocks ahead
one hour, or to switch work sched
ules one hour.
Here is the way this summer's
situation looks now over the state:
The five counties officially
authorized to switch to fast time
have done so for the period from
April 29 to Sept. 29.
Malheur On Mountain Time
Malheur County in Eastern Ore
gon is on Mountain Standard
Time, the same as Pacific Day
light Time. Baker is the only
Eastern Oregon community to
adopt unofficial daylight time.
The Baker Chamber of Commerce
voted for the fast time from May
27 to Sept. 3.
In Central Oregon, daylight sav
ing time has been approved for
Jefferson, Deschutes and Crook
counties by a vote of the chamber
of commerce. Clocks will be
changed in all but government of-

Astoria and Seaside chambers
of commerce have decided to
adopt DST from April 29 to Sept.

The Oceanlake City Council de
cided to set the clocks ahead an
hour, but Newport in the same
county voted to stay on stand
ard time.
Salem and Marion County, it ap
pears, will be a standard time is
land. McMinnville's Chamber of Com
merce voted for daylight time,
and the rest of Yamhill County
was expected to go along.
The Corvallis School Board de
cided Wednesday to advance its
school schedule one hour after
April 29, after the city council
and chamber of commerce had
voted for daylight time.
Albany, by a 5-1 vote Wednes
day of the city council, will be on
fast time. The chamber of com
merce had asked the council to
vote for the change.
The situation in Eugene was
still undecided this week. The
Eugene City Council, meeting as
a committee of the whole, recom
mended that city employes be
permitted to adopt "summertime
hours" starting April 29, without
changing the clocks.
But the council declined to en
dorse the fast time for the entire
community. The committee rec
ommendation will be considered
by the council on April 23, its next
regular meeting.
After last summer's time con
fusion, efforts were made to have
either a special legislative session
or a measure on the May primary
ballot to establish uniform time
throughout the state. But those
efforts failed. The" voters will
have i chance to decide on the
November ballot.
