Salem Folks Visit
Mr. and Mrs. Maurice McDow
ell of Glendale were hosts over the
weekend to the latter's cousins, Mr.
and Mrs. Richard Stire, and son,
Lowell, of Salem.
Mr. and Mrs. Rod Smith of Aza
lea drove to Portland Wednesday
to attend the funeral of Mrs.
Smith's aunt, Mrs. George Welch.
Mrs. Welch has visited the Smiths
and was known in the area.
Mrs. Leona Sheppard of Quines
Creek, near Azalea, entered the
Forest Glen Hospital in Canyon-
ville Feb. 7 and is under treatment
for a heart condition. She is report
ed to be improving.
Lookingglass Grange
Schedules Gun Program
The Lookingglass Grange in co
operation with the Kiwanis Club
of Roseburg is arranging for a six
weeks course under the Juvenile
Gun Safety program arranged by
Harry Hill, chairman of the Rose
burg area.
All youth 17-ycars-old and young
er who wish to hunt in the area
are urged to register for the
course. The applicant's name, ad
dress and phone number are to
be given.
The lessons will be given in one
hour sessions for which there is
long mo charge. Volunteer instructors
will be at the Grange Hall each
last weekend attending i two-day
winter square dance clinic at
Springfield, as representatives of
the Azalea club.
The Azalea Grange held its reg
ular business meeting Friday.
Mrs. Blaine Johnson, master, was
out of town, so George Newman
took her place, giving the third
and fourth degree obligations to
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Lent, new resi
dents of the Cow Creek area.
Glendale and Azalea Boy Scout
organizations prepared displays for
Scout Week. The Glendale display
was set up in the window of the
M & F Food Mart. The Azalea
display was set up on the porch
of the Azalea General Store and
Post Office.

Pattern-Fitting Work
The Green Home Extension Unit
met Wednesday for a lesson "Ma
gic with Meringues" as presented
by Mrs. Agnes Lindberg and
Mrs. Orpha Rutan.
Elma Cooper gave a report on
program planning and those inter
ested in pattern fitting workshops
to be held in March were asked to
sign up. Leaders will be Velma
Hubbell, Gwen Hard, Dorothy
Baird, and Betty Gubser. Anyone
interested in this course should

A potluck luncheon was served
at noon to 28 members and four
guests.
The next meeting will be Feb. 28
for tile lesson on "New Uses for
Convenience Foods" as presented

dinner will feature foods of this
type and ladies are asked to bring
dishes made with packaged foods

Episcopal Men To Hear
State Hospital Head
Dr. Dean K. Brooks, superintend
ent of the Oregon State Hospital
in Salem, will be the guest speak
er at a mens dinner at the Episco
pal Church Parish Hall Monday at
6:45 p.m.
Dr. Brooks was a deputy to the
general convention of the Episcopal
Church which met in Detroit last
fall and was at one time head of
the laymen's work for the Epis
copal Church in the Diocese of Ore
gon. A nationally known authority
and popular speaker on subjects
of mental health, alcoholism, and
Christianity, Dr. Brooks has spok
en at many gatherings throughout
Oregon, as well as elsewhere in
the nation at such widely scattered
places as New York, Detroit, and
San Francisco.
Attendance at the dinner is by
reservation only, but reservations
may be made by phoning toe of
fice of St. George's Church. Non
members of the church are also
welcome to attend if interested, ac
cording to the Rev. Alfred S. Ty
son, pastor.
Sutherlin Group Sets
Lecture For Saturday
There will be a free public lec
ture at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the
Sutherlin Community Building
sponsored by the Christadelphians.
C. G. Stewart of Portland will
be the speaker on the topic "World
Crisis, Is There A Way Out?"
Saturday's lecture will be the
first public effort of the Christa
delphians in this area.
The public is invited to attend
and hear the relation of Bible
prophecy to world crisis and other
questions of national importance,
according to Mrs. James Gorman,
Christadelphian member.
Church services of the group are
held regularly at 10:30 a.m. Sun-,
days in the Beacon Electric build
ing in Sutherlin.

Missionaries Friday !
Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Mundy, mis
sionary appointees representing
the World Missions to Children,
will be guest speakers at a spec
ial 7 p.m. Friday service at the
Hucrest Church of the Christian
and Missionary Alliance.
They will be speaking and show
ing pictures of their future work
in Brazil. In a few weeks they will
leave the United States to begin
their ministry in their newly-adopt
ed land. Headquarters for the
World Missions to Children is
located in Grants Pass.

Home In Glide Is Sold
To Hastings Family

Glide recently purchased the James
and Barbara Evans home. The
Hastings have a daughter. Micky,
