Counts Doesn't Disappoint

EUGENE (AP) The Oreqon
basketball team, after absorbing
weekend defeat truin Arizona

Bill Simmons salvaged some

gon's top scorer, picked up three
fouls in the first eight minutes
and was on the bench most of the
second half, lie made only 11
points.
The shooting percentages tell
the story. Arizona State made 27
of 66 shots for a 66 per rent
average while Oregon was 22 of
70 for 31 per cent.
Simmons, Warren and Wally
Knecht, who also made 11 points,
got all of Oregon's field goals 22.

20 points and had J6 rebounds.
Washington had a 32-31 half
time lead and boosted the margin
to 3531 just after the intermis
sion. But Counts began connect
ing with lump shots and with 14
minutes left Bob Jarobson scored
his only field goal of the game to
put Oregon State ahead to stay.
Washington later sliced the def
icit to 4644 on two free throws
by 6 6 Roger Niva. But Carty.
Counts and Steve Vauly then
went on a scoring spree to put
the game out of the Huskies'
reach.
The victory gives Oregon State
a 2 1 record, The team will meet
Stanford at Corvallis Saturday
and next Monday.
