Harvest-Time For Youth In Melrose Area A host of Melrose youth met at the Melrose Community Church Saturday eight for festival harvest-time banquet. The room was gaily decorated in streamers of fall colors, and featured grapes, autumn leaves and a large illuminated harvest moon. Glenn Goddard Jr. opened the evening's activities with the invo cation. The first special number was an instrumental duet by Carol .Isakson and Gerald Nickolaus who played "Shine On Harvest Moon on their clarinet and trumpet; Rex Hutton followed with bass horn solo, "Minstrel Boy;" Judy Krohn played "Meet The Pilgrims" on the piano; Diane Gausnell did a pamtomime as a harvest hobo; Jim Beecroft outlined the fall plans of the Melrose youth; a girls trio, the J-Js, Jeanette and Joyce Nis wonger and Jane Thompson, sang "Juanita;" and Harry Buckwalter aang a vocal solo entitled "Known Only to Him" prior to the devo tional talk. The young people sang several choruses and songs during the course of the evening. An Ameri can flag was spotlighted in t b e darkness during the singing of "The Battle Hymn of the Repub lic." Curt Loewen, agricultural and hop teacher and assistant wres tlinz coach at Roseburg High School, was guest speaker. The Rev. Donald S. Campbell performed the 2 p.m. ceremony before close frienda and relativea. The bride is Uie daughter of Mr. and Mra. Levi Yarber, and the bridegroom ia the aon of Mr. and Mra. Ned G. Norton, all of Myrtle Creek. Large baakets of dahlias flank ed the altar where the ceremony took place. The bride waa given in marriage by her father. She was charming in a white atreet-lengln dress atyl ed with short aleevea and sweet heart neckline. Her shoulder-length veil was held in place by a cor onet of aeed pearls. Mrs. Wise had charge of the de votions. Mrs. Kenneth Mulkey Rave a very interesting talk on the "Origin of Music." Mrs. George LaGrander was given birthday honors and received a beautiful plant from Mra. Fred Merk. Dr. Lydia Emery of Yoncalla gave a talk on "The Challengea of J.i:e ana Deain in uie Atomic Age." Mrs. La Grander invited the club to meet at the Drain City Hall for the next session. Harvest Dinner Success Between SO and 70 were present for the Rebekah IOOF Harvest Festival dinner held on Saturday evening at the Glendale IOOF HalL A fund of 12! waa raised for presentation to the state 1001 Home In Portland. Days Creek Boy Feted At Party Larry Duncan observed hii fifth birthday at a delightful party liv en by hi mother, Mia. Ralph Dun can of Daya Creek. Balloona dec orated the room. A lovely birthday cake, decorated with "Happy Birthday, Larry" and pink candlea waa aerved the guests together with ice cream and punch. Surprise Party Given A group of frienda from Days Creek surprised Mrs. Wallace Ho vey at her home on her birth day. Cake and coffee were aerved and each presented the guest of honor a gift. Those present were: Mrs. Parry Kline, Mrs. Bill Ward, Mrs. Rob ert Martin, Mra. Don Rogera and Mra. Jake Axt. Banquet Held National Youth for Christ maga zine for one year as a gift for Joyce Morgan, who waa ill and unable to attend the banquet. Tim Arensmeier was master ol cere monies for the occasoon. Adults of the church and com munity furnished and served the ham dinner. Mrs. Don Isakson was in charge. Mrs. Ralph Arensmeier was head of the decorating com mittee and acted as hostess. Adults at the affair were Mr. and Mrs. Sanders, Mr. and Mrs Isakson, Pastor and Mrs. Glenn Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Curt Loewen and Mrs. Arensmeier. Pastor Davis closed the enjoy able program wit' a word of pray er. Table decorations featured the three-tiered wedding cake which was ornamented with pink roses and silver leaves and topped with a bride and bridegroom un der a heart-shaped arch. The gift table, covered with white linen. waa lovely with its arrangement of white hobnail candlesticks, pink candlea and pink roses. Nancy Ware had charge of the gifts and Misa LaVern Ware pre sented the guest book. Mrs. Gary Spencer, cousin of the bride, ladel- ed the punch while Mrs. Leon Ash ton, aunt of the bride, served the wedding cake. For going away, the bride wore a brown and white afternoon dress with white accessories. The newly weds are now at home at 2997 Hill top Drive, Napa, Calif. Both the bride and bridegroom attended Myrtle Creek High School. Mr. Norton worked for Roseburg Lumber Co. up until a few daya before the wedding when he waa called to accept employ ment as electrician at the Mare Island Navy Yard at Valleio, Calif. Husbands Hosted By Club Women Members of the Roseburg Art and Embroidery Club entertained their husbands at a most enjoy able potluck dinner party Satur day sight at the home of Mr. and Mra. William Bailey. After the dinner, which was serv ed at 6:30 p.m., the group enjoyed moving pictures shown by Bailey of his African safari and trips into Mexico and Canada. They also en joyed viewing the many interest ing itema brought from the trav eled areas. Chitwood were hostesses to the Me.rose Grange Home Economics Club Wednesday at the Abeel home. Ceremony Unites Couple Oct. 29 The very lovely wedding of Miss Florette Mary McGee of Days Creek and Robert Garrett Lewis of Gardiner was solemnized Sun day, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. Officiating at the double ring service in the Tri-City Presbyterian Church were the Rev. J. Elbert Nash, recently retired, of Myrtle Creek, assisted by the church'a new pastor, the Rev. Richard Rohrbaugh. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Guy McGee. was a pic ture of radiance in a wedding gown of white taffeta, which was full length with a chapel train. The fit ted bodice had a sweetheart neck line with appliquea of embroidery and seed pearls reaching to waist line. The long sleeves ended in a V at the wrists. A large bow at the back of the gown was used to give a bustle effect. She wore a string of pearls which was a gift of the bridegroom. Her full butterfly illusion bridal veil was white net held in place with a crown of eeed pearls. Her slippers were of white satin. Her bouquet was a cascade of yellow rosea, alephanotia and lilies of the valley carried over her mother's Draver book. Maid of honor was Miss Ann Murray of Coquille, Delta Zeta sororitv sister of the bride from Oregon State University, who was sttired in a mint green street length dress with lace bodice and taffeta skirt witn suppers to match. She wore a head band with veil matching the color of her dress. Her flowers were orange and yellow chrysanthemums tied with orange satin ribbon. Bridesmaids were Miss Patricia Preston of Riddle and Miss Joan Pierce of Portland. Their frocks, veils and flowers were identical to that worn by the maid of honor. Miss Nancy McCoy of Kiddle, sorority sister of the bride, was the candlclighter. Her street-length frock had an orange lace bodice and skirt of taffeta with slippers to match. She wore a matching headband with veil. The flower girl, Linda Pierce of Portland, was attired in a white organdy dress with green sash. She carried a wnite oasket lined with orange and yellow chrysan themums. Floral arrangements were two baskets of orango and yellow chrysanthemums, with a large ar rangement of the same kind of flowers in the center of the window in the front of the sanctuary. Grace ful yellow tapers were used in the candelabra. Burn orange satin hows with a touch of green and yellow in the flowers on the bows were used as pew markers. The bridegroom chose Dale Nel son of Reedsport to serve as his best man. t'sher.i were Harold Grubb, brother - in law of the bride; Jerry Covault of Reeds port; Bill Skinner of Powers; and Floyd Rudy of Gold Beach. As guesta assembled in the church. Mra. Dale Rushton play ed incidental selections on the or gan. Promise Me" and Because" after the bride'a mother was seated and "The Ird't Prayer" during the service. Preceded by her honor attend ants, the bride entered on the arm of her father, who gave her in marriage. The bride's mother chose a jack et sheath dress of light beaver brocade satin tor her daughter's wedding, accented with a dusty rose hat. and a green orchid cor sage. The bridegroom's mother wore a purple rayon jacket dress with matching ha and veil. Her corsage was a pink orchid. The bride's maternal grandmother. Mra. Msrv Sagaberd. waa dressed in a nsvy blue afternoon frock with a white beaded hat. Her cor aage was of white carnations. Immediately following the cere mony, the guests assembled in a reception line going into t b e church's Nash Hall, which was decorated with yellow and orange chrysanthemums. The bride's table waa dominated by a large and beautifully decorated wedding rake, which was topped with a white satin weddino bell and coy- ered with yellow roses. After the newlyweds had cut the first slice with a sterling knife, a gift to them from the bride's parents, the cake was served by Mrs. Bud Gaulke with a sterling servet which had been given to the bride's parents when they were married. Assisting Mrs. Gaulke was Mrs. Howard Haymes. Punch was served by Mrs. Lawrence Mi chaels, and Mrs. Phil Blundell presided at the coffee urn. The bride's godmother, Mrs. Max Kim mell, and Miss Blanche Gibson, assisted with the reception. Jac queline and Roberta Prairie and Virginia Haymes assisted around the reception room. White nylon net rice cups, made by Mrs. Ralph Weaver, aunt of the bride, and Mrs. Harold Grubb, sister of the bride, were placed by the door, the rice to be tossed at the newlyweds as they departed iur uieir noneymoon. The gift table was presided over by Mrs. Gerald McKenzie of Ash land and Miss Mary Dunlan. Mrs. Ralph Weaver was in charge of uie guest dook. For her going away costume, the bride chose a brown and beige wool sheath with brown orchid corsage, green feathered hat, green gloves, Diack shoes and bag. They traveled to San Francisco through the Redwoods, visited at Carmel-by-the-Sea, and the Hearst Castle at San Simeon. They are now at nome in uardmer. The bride was graduated from Days creek High School in 1959. She attended Oregon State Uni versity for a year and a half, where she was a member of Delta Zeta aorority. The past summer she was employed at Lake Talike- nitcn Resort. The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry M. Lewis of Vienna. Va., was graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and obtained his master's degree in forestry at Oregon Slate University. He en- usied in the Marine Corps and is now a captain in the Marine Corps Reserve. He is employed as as sistant ranger at the Smith River Ranger Station of Siuslaw National Forest at Gardiner. Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lewis from Vien na. Va.; Miss Blanche M. Gibson. Salem; Miss Mary Montgomery. Later in the afternoon a meet ing of the Evergreen Home Eco nomics Club waa held. Mildred De Gnath was installed as chair man. Sutherlin HEC Enjoys Potluck The Sutherlin Community Home Economics Club met at the grange hall west of Sutherlin, with Evelyn r roetsrner, hostess, for a noon pot luck Tuesday. At the meeting which followed. Dorothy Clark reported on the card parly. The club voted to give $25 to tne grange. Plans were made for a public pinochle party to be held at the Sutherlin Community Grange Hall west of Sutherlin Nov. 17 at 8 p.m. Prizes will be given, refreshments served and a small admission charged. Helen Hodges is general chairman of the event. The public is invited. The annual Christmas party will be held Dec. S at the home of Gertrude Bringle. Birthday Occasion For Family Party Mrs. II. A. Alex Sawyer Home In Drain Setting Of Family Reunion Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Steiber of was spent visiting and taking pio Sutherlin attended a reunion ot Mrs. Steiber's family Sunday in Drain. The reunion started with the entire family attending church service together, after which they all gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Alex Sawyers in South Dram. The occasion was the first time in several years that the entire family had been together. All five children of the Alex Sawyers were present. They inclgded Jake Saw yers, Zelma Duke, Leanna Haines, Virgie Madison and Margaret Stei ber. Dinner was served In the after noon, honoring the birthdays of Mrs. Alex Sawyers, Glenda Saw- vers.
