Warriors In Race Drain's Warriors are in the race for the A 2 crown as a result of win-' ning the Kmerald 1-eag'ie I District 5A2I. The Warriors quarterfinal opponents will be the I'hoenix Pi rates, with the outing between the i Warriors and the 1'irates set for Drain's field Friday. Drain won its league with an 10 mark and ii 8 1 for the season. To get into the playoffs the Pi rates, winners of the Rogue Valley League, had to defeat another lo cal team-the Glide Wildcats. The Wildcats romped through the sea son with only i tie to blemish their record as they won the Ump qua Valley league title before los ing out to the Pirates. Still another A 2 team from Douglas County is in the playoffs. The Kredsport Braves won the Coast League (District 3 A 2) to earn berth in the battle for the state title. The Braves will take on lop rated Myrtle Point in the quar terfinals this weekend. Strong Contenders In B 11 man action the Yoncalla Eagles tare strong contenders for a state title. Herb Hellinger, sports columnist for the Argonaut, wrote Wednes day that "a lot of students" are asking that Skip Stahley, whose team has won only one of seven games this season, "resign or else be fired." Hellinger also wrote: "When the time comes that football play ers no longer want to play for a coaeh, he is doomed." Stanley reportedly has been hanged in effigy five times this season. In Southern Ore gon eight-man play the Hornets won their conference with a 4 0 record. Kddyville marched to a title in its league, then went on to drop triangle Lake last week for the right to meet the Hornets for the district title. Camas Valley and Kddyville have been the only teams which have been able to beat Triangle Lake, with Kddy ville having two victories over trie l.akers. Hornets Fresh The Hornets will be fresh from last week's 72-19 shellacking of the Hutle Kails Loggers when they take the field in Saturday's outing. The overwhelming victory last week brought the Hornets' point total to 303 for the season. The op position has managed to score 84 points against the Hornets.
