served their sliver wedding anni
versary Sunday at an open house.
The Archers were married June
27, 1936, in Omak, Wash,
Hosts and hostesses for the occa
sion were their sons and daugh
tcrs: Mrs. Ervin J. Darling (Donna
June Archer), Gerald (Jerry)
Archer, who came from Fort Ord
Calif., where he was then serving
with the National Guard; and Jim
and Joan Archer of Oakland. Mrs.
Darling and family recently re
turned home from Germany
Mrs. Archer wore a light blue
cotton brocaded dress with a pink
and white carnation corsage. The
corsage was a gift from her son
in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs
Ervin Darling, and family.
Special guests for the open
house were Mr. and Mrs. Walt
Walking of Roseburg who observ
ed their silver anniversary June 28.
Mr. and Mrs. Watkins and the
Archers were both married in
Omak, Wash., and by the same
minister. Also present were Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Cromwell of Seattle.
Wash., Mrs. Archer's mother and
stepfather, who observed their
ninth anniversary June 27.
Four generations present for the
occasion were Mrs. Cromwell,
Mrs. Archer, Mrs. Darling and
Deanna and Seanise Darling.

to decorate the rooms. The flow
ers were gifts of friends and neigh
bors. Many gifts and cards were
also received from relatives and
friends.

Claire Carnes, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Ralph Carnes, and Don
ald Pankcy Jr., son of Mr. and
Mrs. Donald Pankey of Melrose
were married Friday, June 30, at
the home of Justice of the Peace
Watson.
Attending the wedding were Mr,
and Mrs. Donald Pankey Sr., Mrs.
Ralph Carnes and Mr. and Mrs.
William Hunter. Following the cer
emony the bridegroom's parents
entertained the wedding party and
guests at a dinner at the Four
Winds Restaurant in Sutherlin.
Following a few days honeymoon
to Eugene and up the McKenzie
River the couple now resides at
Tyee, where ha is employed with
his father.
Mahlon R. Hale Home Scene
Of Pink And Blue Shower
A lovely social event was the
pink and blue shower honoring
Mrs. Bill G. Onstott which was
held recently at the Mahlon R.
Hale home at the Tiller Ranger
Station. Mrs. Hale and Mrs. John
T. Utley were co-hostesses.
A pink honeycomb umbrella,
with buds of tea roses arranged
on and beneath it, centered the
attractive serving table, r lowers
in ceramic bootees and other at
tractive containers were arranged
about ithe rooms. A smaller table
on which gifts were placed was
covered with an heirloom cloth of
white linen and delicate insertion
lace. A treasured possession, Mrs.
Utley had received the cloth from
her great-aunt, Mrs. Zeno Cox of
Nacagdoches, Texas, who had re
ceived it as a wedding gift many
years ago.
After the opening of the gifts by
the honored guest, an evening of
visiting was enjoyed. The hostess
es served dainty refreshments.

Bride Of James G. Wales
The wedding of Phoebe E. Pew
and James G. Wales, both of Yon
calla, was an event of Saturday,
July 1, at 8 p.m. at the Yoncalia
Methodist Church.
The Rev. Raymond Otto of the
Harrisburg Methodist Church and
recently pastor of the Yoncalia
church, performed the ceremony
in the presence of a large group
of friends and relatives.
Bouquets of pink and white sum
mer flowers decorated the altar.
Mrs. Felix Latham, organist, play
ed wedding music and accompan
ied Clifford Emery, who sang "You
Tell Me Your Dream."
The bride, given in marriage by
her father, Fred Reeves, was love
ly in a beige lace and peau de soi
sheath dress. She wore a pink
carnation corsage, a small pink hat
and a pink necklace, a gift of the
bridegroom.
Merrillin Pew, daughter of the
bride, was maid of honor. She wore
a coral-colored sheath dress and
carried a white carnation nosegay.
Best man was Gary Wales,
grandson of the bridegroom. Ush
ers were Mervin Pew, the bride's
son; Jerry Reeves, the bride's
nephew; and Richard Wales, grand
son of the bridegroom, all of Yon

get-together Tuesday. Games for

the ceremony. Floral arrange
ments about the room and two tall
tapers on the serving table were
used for decorations.
The three-tiered wedding cake.
beautifully decorated in pink and
white and topped by three while
bells and pink net, had been baked
by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kirkelie
of Yoncalia. Following the tradi
tional cutting by the bride and
bridegroom, Mrs. Eldon Lee serv
ed the cake. Coffee and punch
were poured by Mrs. R. Proebstal
and Mrs. Jean Cowan. Groom's
cake, baked by Mrs. Otto Schie
mann, was served by Mrs. Quen
tin Rychard. Betty Wales, grand
daughter of the bridegroom, bad
charge of the guest book.
Prior to her marriage, M r s.
Wales worked at the Yoncalia Beau
ty Shop as a cosmetologist. She
moved to that area from Califor
nia two years ago. The bridegroom
has lived in the Yoncalia vicinity
for the past 15 years. He is self
employed and owns a handle mill
in Rice Valley. The newlyweds
plan to return to their home on
Rice Valley Road July 15, ' fol
lowing a honeymoon trip to South
ern California and Arizona.

Bible bearer for the ceremony
was Danny Sether, 4, grandson of
the worthy matron.
Mrs. Smith wore a formal gown
of silver grey and net and with it
a corsage made of three minia
ture orchids with pink throats. Her
officers wore formals of pale green
taffeta and carried lily-of-the-val-ley
nosegays.
Sheron Smith, the candle lighter,
wore a pink nylon eyelet dress
with wristlets of pink carnations.
Distinguished guests present for
the ceremony included the follow
ing: Mrs. E. L. Rondebush, Grand
Adah of the Grand Chapter of Ore
gon and a member of Josephine
Chapter of Grants Pass; Bill Ran
dolph, a member of the Estral
Committee and a member of the
Reames Chapter of Medford; and
E. D. Goff, worthy patron of Nev
ita Chapter of Central Point.
Mrs. Smith received a manzan
ita wood gavel from her daughter,
Mrs. John Sether. The gavel had
been made by her son-in-law.
The outgoing worthy matron,

and the outgoing worthy patron,
Fred Beerli, were honored with
an addendum and received gifts
from their officers and from the
chapter. They also received jewels
rom Past Matrons and Past Pa
iiuiia nuua.
The new officers also were hon
ored by an addendum. Mrs. Pete
Smith received a large and beau
tiful bouquet of red roses, a white
scrapbook and a white guest book.
The guest book was a gift from
her husband and from her daugh
ter, Mrs. John Sether. Mrs. George
Major had charge of having the
guest book signed earlier in the
evening.
Refreshments were served in the
dining room. Mrs. Olger Sether
poured the coffee and Miss Sheron
Smith served the punch.
The dining room was decorated
with bouquets of sweet peas and
pale green candles. Guests re
ceived as favors pale green nuls
cups set on silver stars.
Dahacks Dinner Guests f
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Dahack of
Tiller were houseguests Tuesday
of Mrs. Eve Prentice in Medford,
who entertained at a dinner for
them and for Mr. and Mrs. Ernest
Neidemeyer of Central Point in
honor of the occasion.
Mrs. Prentice, a MerlfnM mni
teacher with whom Mr. Dahack
has studied accordion, entertained
her guests with movies and slides
depicting highlights of her four
month 'round-the-world tour from
which she returned in April. Of
particular interest were the pic
tures from India.
