In visitine beautiful cardens are
invited to the annual earden party
and tea at th beautiful home of
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hinsdale,
Spruce Reach Island, at Keeus

Many Douglas County residents
make the trek annually to the
Hinsdale gardens, for every year
finds the grounds more colorful,
more beautiful and new plantings
to be enjoyed and admired.
The gardens will be open from
2 to 5 p.m. There is no admission
charged for entrance to the gar
dents, however, a silver tea is held
in connection with the affair and
all proceeds Co annually to St.
Mary's Episcopal Church of Gar
diner, Ore.
The Hinsdale azalea and rhodo
dendron gardens are nude up of
speciman sited plantings and are
considered as beautiful as can he
found in the Pacific Northwest.
Garden enthusiasts will find a visit
to the gardens an inspiration and
a real treat.

Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Manchester. Visiting was
enjoyed during the pleasant social

received relatives and friends Sun
day afternoon at an open house
given by their daughters, Mrs. Her
man E. Rabe of Denver, Colo.;
Mrs. James E. Judd and Mrs. Del
bert Anderson of Roseburg, from
3 to 5 o'clock at the Episcopal Par
ish Hall in observance of their gold
en wedding anniversary. Women of
St. George's Episcopal Church had
charge of the reception.
Mrs. Walter Ulrich and M r s.
James E. Doyle arranged the very
beautiful floral arrangements,
which carried out various shades
of yellow and gold.
Mrs. Alfred S. Tyson and Mis.
John L. Welch poured the coffee
and tea. Miss Charlotte Tyson
served the punch and Miss Denise
Doyle had charge of the guest
book.
For the occasion. Mrs. Blaker
wore an orchid colored suit with a
corsage of golden brown orchids.
Mrs. Rabe wore a pink sheer wool
dress; Mrs. Judd wore a silk flow
ered dress and Mrs. Anderson
wore a blue print dress.
The Rev. William L." Blaker was
born in Greenwich, England, and
Mrs. Blaker, the former Constance
A. Turax, was born in Grand
Forks, N.D. They were married in
Langdon, N.D. April 19, 1911.
The Rev. Mr. Blaker was priest
in charge of the Mission in Rugby,
N.D. In December 1911 he went as
rector to All Saints Church in
Minot. N.D. In 1914 he went to
Grace Church, New Symra, Fla.;
1915 to Christ Church in Bradcn
ton, Fla.; 1919 to Grace Church in
Columbus, Neb.; 1925 to Saint Pe
ter's Church in Denver, Colo., and
while in Denver was Dean of
Younz People of the state of Colo
rado and Chaplain at Saint Luke's
Hospital as well as serving as vi
car of St. James. He is a retired
chaplain for the U. S. Army Re
serve Officers.
In 1944 he was sent to Saint
George's Church in Roseburg and
while here the church became a
parish. In 1949 he went to Christ
Church in St. Helen's Ore. and
while there the church also be
came a parish. He retired in 1956
and he and his wife returned to
Roseburg to make their home on
SP. Kane Street.
Besides their three daughters the
Blakers have two grandsons, Wil
liam E. Summer of Portland and
Robert J. Becley of Roseburg, and
a great-grandson, Rob Sumner, of
Tucson, Ariz.

TAMARA YOUNG, former Roseburg girl, was presented
in a charming Twilight Musical at 5 p.m. Sunday in the
Pompeian Room of the Congress Hotel in Portland. A
senior at Oswego High School, she had the lead in "Annie
Get Your Gun" this year and will attend college in the
fall. She took lessons the lost two summers at the Sher
wood School of Music in Chicago. She is a voice student
of Esther Hammer ond piano student of Mary Frohs. The
daughter of Mrs. Jan Young of Portland and Leo Young
of Eugene, she is a great-niece of Dr. and Mrs. D. B.
Bubar of this city, who went to Portland for the recital.
She is also a great-niece of Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Burr of
Roseburg.
State Officers Welcomed
By Roseburg Emblem Club
Officers and members of the
Roseburg Emblem Club gathered
at the Elks Club Wednesday to
meet and greet the state president,
Helen Davis, and her marshal,
Margaret Gustafson, both of Sea
side. After the social hour a banauet
was held in the dining room for
the honored guests, beginning at 7
p.m. The tables had a spring at
mosphere, with garden arrange
ments throughout.
Rosebure Emblem Club nresi-
dent, Myrtle Baker, presented or
chids to the honored guests. The
state president was attired in blue
lace, and the marshal wore deep
ecru lace. Officers of the Roseburg
club wore white gowns. All had
white gloves to complement their
costumes.
At the meeting which followed
the banquet, the two officers made
their visitation.
Phyllis Gilmore was elected and
installed as historian and press
correspondent.
It was noted that Eastern Ore
gon now has one physical therapy
unit and the state Emblem clubs
are now assembling to purchase
and equip a second mobile unit for
the western part of the state.
