The Rosoburg Embltm Club will hold a plant and rummage sale at the Elks Ballroom Saturday, April 1. The club especially wants dona tions of plants and bulbs, as well as planters, vases and decanters and the like. Mr. and Mrs. George Schaefer of Cbokio, Minn., arrived in Rose burg Monday for a visit with the latter's son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Salmonson, and with her son-in-law and daugh ter, Dr. and Mrs. Louis Michalek. Radioman 3C Ronald R. Coff man, U.S. Navy, son of Mr. snd Mrs. Roseoe Parr of this city, has just completed a 25-day leave here, visiting friends and relatives. He has been stationed in Seattle, Wash., and has been transferred to San Diego, Calif., where he will be stationed until June when he will leave for Japan to be gone six months. While here they visited Dr. Frank Mer ker at the VA Hospital and had a tour of the hospital. Parents Visited Mrs. Elva Kniglitcn and two sons, from Ashland recently vis ited in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Koy Matthews. Mrs. Knighten returned to Ashland on Monday to lake tests this week at Southern Oregon college, out tne boys will remain at Days Creek to spend the week with their grand parents. Mrs. Oneta Hendrix and three children motored to Portland re cently to visit the former's son, Merrill, who is in the Good Samar itan Hospital. Merrill is to under go another operation this week when a bone from the leg will be grafted to his back, and he will be in a cast for about three or four months. John Larson and Ben Zellmer accompanied by other members of the v w, drove to Eugene Sun day, where Larson was intiated into the "Cootie" organization. Visiting in the home of Air. and Mrs. Doug Schoonover is his fa ther, Arthur Schoonovcr, from Canby. Visits Sister Mr. and Mrs. Guy McGee. with Mrs. McGce's mother, Mrs. Mary Sagabard, recently motored to Yoncalla where Mrs. Sagabard will visit with her sister, Mrs. Nora Mathis. Doctors said it took more than 100 stitches to close his wounds. Stato police said Padron told them he was attacked in his cabin near St. Paul about 5:30 a.m. Po lice are searching for the attacker. Padroii was brought to the hos pital here in critical condition. Central Oreeon College at Bend, will die without financial nelp lrom the legisla ture. A parade of witnesses at a community college hearing agreed mat voters win turn down in the face of high property taxes any proposals for local financing of community colleges. They said slate aid must ap proach 100 per cent of the cost. the programs should be ad ministered cither by local school boards or by the Department of Education and not the Board of Higher education, witnesses agreed. The witnesses included educa tors and school board members nd delegations from Astoria and Bend. There are three bills before Hie legislature, all appropriating mon ey for community colleges. One would put the program tinder the higher board, another under local school hoards and the third would not spell this out.
