was celebrated Saturday, Feb. 25, at a charming open
: house affair given by their sons and daughters and sons-,

hostess for the charming affair,
Mrs. Alfred Denton assisting with
the serving of refreshments.
Mrs. Doyle was responsible for
the charming decorations which
carried out an orchid and white
color scheme, the fireplace orna
mented with a large white heart
with accents of orchid to form a
shadow box effect. The orchid and
while theme was also carried out
in the decorations for the serving
table. Mrs. Doyle had also made
a ."This is Your Life" scrapbook
for Miss Craves.

a beautiful candlelight ceremony,
which was concluded with an ex
hibition drill by the 24-member
Annual Sweetheart Dinner
Held At Green On Sunday
The Missionary Youlh Fellow
ship group of the Green Commun
ily Church held its annual sweet
heart dinner Friday evening in the
social rooms of the church. The
group was assisted in planning and
serving by the ladies of the church.
The rooms were charmingly dec
orated in a red and white color
scheme using hearts and cuplds.
Each place was marked with a
program featuring a golden key.
Forty guest attended.
Les Forney, youth leader, gave
a short . speech of welcome and
the Rev. Leonard Floth gave the
invocation. Guest speaker was the

The Roseburg Club has been in
vited lo put on their initiation cere
mony, a tribute to the Bible, and
the response to the address of wel
come at the district convention to
be held at Waltcrvillo, Ore., March
25.
The youth committee of the
Roseburg Kcbekah Lodge served
refreshments at tables decorated
with attractive bouquets of spring
flowers.
Rev. Albert J. Wollcn of the Cedar
Mill Bible Church of Portland.
The Putnam sisters sang two
numbers and Sharon Bintlitf gave
a reading. Treasure chest prizes
were won by Lenny Floth, Wayne
Kaylor and Mrs. Dintliff.
Dinner, Film Enjoyed
A dinner, honoring the various
committee chairmen of the Farm
Bureau Federation membership
campaign, was given Monday eve
ning at the Piano Roll Inn. Later,
a most interesting and educational
film was shown.
There were 19 present.

Friendship Night Is Held

Job's Daughters, held Friendship
Night at the Masonic Hall in Oak
land on the evening of March 1.
A large number was on hand to
help the girls make the affair a
huge success.
After the meeting, refreshments
and a most enjoyable program

THE OAKLAND HIGH SCHOOL SPANISH CLUB took a
most interesting trip to Moreno's Toco House in Eugene,
Thursday. They enjoyed the friendly Spanish atmosphere
ond also o very delicious Spanish luncheon. The host, Mr.
Moreno, gave o talk obout Mexican people and customs
and showed some very beautiful colored slides of his
native country. As each student left, fie was given o
free Mexican coin. Those attending were: Mr. Doherty,

cluded songs, a pantomime and a
skit, "The Case of the Missing

MR. AND MRS. J. D. MATHIS. who were honored by
their family at a golden .wedding celebration Feb.; 25, are
pictured above with their golden wedding cake. Mr. ond
Mrs. Mathis were married in Gooding, Idaho and shortly
after moved to Emmert, Idaho, where they lived until 15
years ago, when they came to Roseburg. They are parents
of five daughters and two sons. The reception took place
in Lookingglass, where they are members of the Looking
glass Community Church. Mrs. Mathis is organist at the

Mrs. E. J. White of Grants Pass,
Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Yundt Jr. of
Roseburg, Mr. and Mrs. Ross
Crane of Portland and Mr. and
Mrs. J. E. Norelius and Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Mercer, all of Vancouver,
Wash.
Mr. and Mrs. Mathis were mar
ried in Gooding, Idaho, 50 years
ago, moving to Emmett, Idaho,
shortly afterward. They lived there
until 15 years ago when they mov
ed to Roseburg. They are the par
ents of two sons and five daugh
ters, Both are members of the
Lookingglass Community Church
where Mrs. Mathis serves as or
ganist. They are also members of
the Lookingglass Grange.

Honored Thursday
Mrs. I.. L. Chit wood of Melrose
was pleasantly surprised Tuesday
afternoon when a few neishbors
called to celebrate her birthday.

Lutheran Women Hosted
At Keith Dies Residence
The Lutheran Women's Mission
ary league of St. John's Church of
Sutherlin met at the home of Mrs.
Keith Dies near Sutherlin for an
all-day work meeting. A sack lunch
was enjoyed at noon, and a coffee
break in the afternoon, following
the meeting. Layettes for missions
are being made by the group.
Mrs. Ijvern Murphy, who had
attended a tone meeting at Grants
Pass, gave a report on Christian
growth. She is chairman of tke lo

dren, Marilyn, Theresa and Teddy,
of Cottage Grove; daughter, Mrs.

are still living at home, George,
Public Is Invited
To Benefit Party
A benefit card party will be
held Saturday, March 11, at the
Melrose Grange at 8 p.m. The
public is invited. This is the 'first
fund raising affair given by the
newly organized Cystic Fibrosis
Chapter of Roseburg, which is the
third such chapter in Oregon; the
other two being at Portland and
Klamath Falls. Funds received
from the benefit will go the nation
al research foundation.
Pinochle will be in play and
prizes awarded. Refreshments will
be served by the hostesses, Mrs.
C. E. Reece and Mrs. Roger Reece.
Pound cans of candy will be on
sale.

licious fried chicken no-host dinner
was enjoyed at the Sportsman
Cafe by the bethel members and
visiting officials. The official table

spring bouquet of white and pale
pink hyacinths mingled with daf
fodils, arranged by Mrs. George
Sosic.

Mr. and Mrs. Ted Chambers of
Jerome, Idaho, and Mr. and Mrs.
Frauendiener of Mapleton, all of
whom were unable to attend.
Mr. and Mrs. Clark were mar
ried Feb. 24 in Vancouver, Wash.,
and have spent the past several,
years in Roseburg where they have
the family home on Happy Valley
Road. .
Basketball Teams Feted
About 20 members of the Glen
dale High School basketball teams
were guests of honor Thursday eve
ning, for a spaghetti dinner given
at the home of the basketball
coach, Lawrence Gibson.
Mr. and Mrs. Gibson and Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Johnston were
hosts and hostesses. Other guests,
besides the boys, were the five
cheer leaders and the school super
intendent, Marlen Yoder, and Mrs.
Yoder.
