' Recital Enjoyed Wednesday evening,-an informal piano recital was given by pupils of Gladys H. Strong. Grade school and Junior High students were presented making a very interest ing program as the pupils varied from young beginners to quite well advanced students; They played well showing both musical talent and good work: The recital was given at Miss Strong's residence-studio on South East Main Street. A social hour was enjoyed by the students and their tnends loliowing we pro gram. This was the first in a series of winter recitals to be given in the next tew weeks. Canyon vi lie PTA Honors Founders In keeping with the PTA theme of the month, honoring founders, members of the Canyonville associ ation heard a brief history of PTA and honored past presidents at their meeting Thursday at the school gymnasium. The organization honored past presidents, of which Mrs. Bruce Dick was the only one present. Both the primary and the high school libraries wero presented checks for bonks in the name of the past presidents of the Canyon ville PTA. Mrs. George Sherman read a brief history of the association. A nominating committee to present a slate of officers at the March 23 meeting included Mrs. Lynn . Jones, Mrs. LeKoy Morris and Pat Brayton. During the program hour, men of the PTA presented a "yester year" fashion show which Included Boh Proctor, Charles Dowd, Lynn Jones, Air. Owens, Keith Olson, A. u. Zutclt and u-roy Morns, arranged Dy Airs, j AN ENJOYABLE rush party was held by Alpha Theto Chapter at the home of Mrs. Grady Mankins. "South of the Border" was the theme for the otfoir ond the de corations tiroughouf the home carried out the theme. Members and guests attended in appropriate costumes. Mrs. James Peterson ond Mrs. Justin Young won prizes fcr the best costumes. Mrs. Mankins ond Mrs. Thomas Findlay, hostesses, served Mexican food and coffee. Spring flowers in a lovely arrange ment graced the lace covered serving table and centered each of the card- tables at which guests were seated. Preceding the commencement of the program, Mrs. George V. Stone of Canyonville played incidental piano selections for the pleasure of the guests as they assembled. Mrs. Roy Jackson of Drew, PTA president, welcomed the audience and introduced the numbers, which included a clarinet solo by Mrs. John O. Wilson, accompanied at the pjano by Mrs. nay i.ooney; a talk on old schools by Anton Erlebach. Tiller pioneer: a vocal solo by Airs. Gene Carlson, with niano accompaniment by Mrs. Loonev: a presentation from their Broadway repertoire by Mr. and Mrs. Avery Ureenman of urew. former vaudeville performers; and a talk by Mrs. Howard Ward on the signmcance of r ounders vay. Mrs. C. J. Porter was at the piano for musical accents to the Green man skit. Airs. Jackson read "e names of all past presidents and those in attendance were presented with corsages. They were Mrs. Stewart Williams, Airs. Howard Midkifr, Airs. Earl Tibbets, Mrs. J. V. Lewis and Mrs. Fat Jenks. Air. Erlebach's tracing of (he hislorv of schools in the Tiller area from early in the century to the present time, and his descrip tion of the neighborhood project of constructing what was known as Rondeau School, with every thing produced on the building site except for nans, windows anu hardware, was especially informa tive. Mrs. Jackson gave a, brief history of local PTA activity which began with (he first meeting in 1917. Consolidation with Drew the following year brought about the beKinning of the present organiza tion. Mrs. Lanca Brown of Trt City, a former local teacher, was introduced as a member of the group at its inception. Attractive programs for the event were prepared by Airs. Ralph Martin and Airs. Barbara, Calif., was the scene of the wedding of Miss Barbara Brown and Clarence (Nub) Beam er Saturday, Feb. 4. at 4 p.m. The Rev. Paul M. Gammons perform ed the double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Airs. Harry E. Brown of Santa Barbara; !ier husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. AI. Beamer of Roseburg. For her wedding, the bride were a gown of imported silk taffeta with a portrait neckline and three quarter length sleeves bordered with embroidery banding. The floor-length skirt was designed in redingcole style, and it was trim med with the same embroidery. A satin cap decorated with seed pearls held her elbow-length veil. Her flowers were gardenias. Gowned in a leaf green nylon peau de soie dress, Miss Edith Stoney, the main of honor, carried yellow jonquils. The bodice of the dress had a scoop neckline and the barrel shirt was short. Her head dress was green to match her dress. Wally Beamer was best man for his brother. At the reception given for 200 guests at the LaCumbre Country Club, the bride's mother greeted guests in a red silk sheath with white accessories. Mrs. Beamer with the help of many other mem- bers. At the conclusion of the program, guests were invited to the serving table, presided over by Airs. Mid kiff at the coffee urn and Airs. Jenks at the tea service. Trays of a variety of dainty cookies and other templing tidbits were ar ranged on a secona tame, uirisiy Porter and Evelyn Marshall as sisted with the serving. Johannes of the Dillard-Winston Methodist Church, performed the single ring cere mony, Saturday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m. in the church at Dillard, which united in marriage Miss Sharon Lee Brannan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Ward of Oregon City, and Eddie Lee Counts, son of Air. and Airs. Brian Counts of Winston. The bride, given in marriage by her father, was charming in a biege brocade slreel-lcngth dress with yellow accessories. She wore a small hat ol tiowersiana ner cor sage was of yellow roses. Joanne Counts, sister or tne bridegroom and the bride's only attendant, was attractive in a dress with yellow flowers on a biege background. Her corsage was of yellow carnations. Best man was Sam Aloore. For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Ward wore a biege dress with a corsage of yellow carna tions. The bridegroom's mother wore an off-white dress and a cor sage of yellow carnations. The reception following the wed ding was held at the home of the bridegrooms parents, Mr. ana Mrs. Brian Counts, on cary street in Winston. A buffet supper was served with is. Brian Counts and Joanne Counts presiding at the punch bowl and serving coffee. The bride was graduated from Douglas High School in 1956. Ore. Thur., Feb. 23, 1961 wore a pale green silk dress with pink accessories. Each had a while orchid corsage. Wearing a navy blue wool suit with white accessories, the new Mrs. Beamer and her husband lelt for a wedding trip to Phoenix, Ariz. They will be at home in Van couver, B.C., Canada, after March 1. The bride was graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1958 and attended College of Pacific in Stockton and Oregon State Col lege. Her husband was graduated from Oregon State College. He be gan his football career at Rose burg High School, played in t h e Hose Bowl in college and is now playing professional football with the B. C. Lions in Vancouver. Going south for the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Beamer, Mr. and Mrs. Wally Beamer, Mr. and Mrs. Robert McCrary and James Beamer, all of this city. The evening before the wedding, a dinner was given for the bridal couple at the Green Gables by the bride's grandmother, Mrs. William K. Harrison. Included were Dr. and Mrs. Brown. Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Shower Is Inspired By Canyonville Bride-To-Be Lucia Snyder, whose marriage to Eldon Wimer of Medford will take place in Eugene March 4, was the inspiration for a party given by Oregon Chapter 57, OES, the South Douglas Study Club and the South Douglas Business and Professional Women's Club at the Masonic tem ple Friday evening. Nearly 30 friends of Airs. Snyder attended the party which used the Valentine holiday for both decora tion and refreshment motif. Airs. She is now a sophomore in college and will receive a two-year degree in business in the spring. Oakland Chapter OES Has Meet On Thursday Oakland Chapter 91, OES, met Thursday at the Oakland Alasonic Hall. Worthy Matron Kathryn Roadman and Worthy Patron Ted Roadman presided. Mrs. Vern Holgate read a letter to the chapter that she had receiv ed from Airs. Lease, a member of Oakland Chapter who is now resid ing in Phoenix, Ariz. Following tne meeting, lovely re freshments were served in the din ing room. Refreshment committee was comprised of chairman Violet Hunbell.
