Stark O. Hatfield hat asked Sen. iMaurme Neubergrr to clarify her position on building of the proposed Nez Perce Dam on the Snake River. Hatfield's request came after Mrs. IMeubcrger rejected his pro posal for an amendment to her bill barring federal licensing of dams on the Salmon River. Hatfield would add an amend ment barring construction of Nez Perce Dam. That dam would he below the confluence of the Sal mon and Snake rivers. Hatfield said his amendment would afford greater protection to migratory fish spawning areas in the Salmon River of Idaho. It would, he added, plug a loophole. "We believe this loophole would allow construction of Nez Perce Dam . . . and thus negate anv ari vanlage gained through designa tion of the Salmon River as a fish sanctuary." Hatfield said Mrs. Keubcrger had advised she felt his amend ment proposal was unnecessary. He said he had asked her to recon sider.
