Gtosebuirg's fapplers Win Four Fast Pins Recorded By Tribe As They Down Springfield,39-ll The Roseburg Indian grapplers scored four fast pins and then went on to down the Springfield Millers 39-11 Friday night on the home mats. Taking an early 20 point lead over the Millers, Coach Wall Payne's crew of Indians went on to win five of the last eight match es for a total of nine wins and three losses in the dual meet. Once the Indians got started they did ! not stop as tney easily handled the Millers to give Roseburg a 4-1 mark in District 5-A-l com petition. For the season the local grapplers have a 5-4 record. Richman Triumphs Ken Richman put the Indians on the scoreboard in the first match as the scrappy Roseburg flyweight downed Dick Eymann of Spring field in the 98-pound match. Going into the third period Richman was leading 5-0 in points when he man aged to force Eymann's shoulders to the mat with 25 seconds re maining in the match. Following Richman's example Terry Sigfrit followed with a pin for the Indians in the 106-pound competition. Sigfrit made short work of Wally Harris of Spring field as the speedy Roseburg lightweight ended the match only 52 seconds after it had begun. Continuing to take five-pointers the Indians extended their lead to 15-0 as Steve Sand pinned Lar ry Tjomsland of Springfield in 42 seconds of the "second period of their 115-pound match. Wrestling at 123 Bounds Terry uoddara down ed his opponent in 1:40 of the second to give the Indians their fourth nin in four matcnes. G. W. Marical kept the Tribes men's win streak going as he took a 3-1 decision over Don Richard son in the 130-pound match. Jim Cahill followed with a pin over Denny Tnolo in tne 136-pound bracket as he put the Indians out in front 28-0. Marical Wins After losing the 141-pound match the Indians came back with a victory by Pervy Marical in the 148-pound class. Pervy Marical out pointed Harry Plouse of Spring field 5 0 as he outmaneuvered the Miller 148-pounder. Dave Gilkison picked up the next win for the Tribe in the 168-pound competition as he topped John Wright of Spring field 5-3. The final victory for the Indians came in the heavyweight bracket as Glen Goddard pinned Bruce Harris in the second period. Springfield managed to take only three matches with Larry Piquetle taking the first victory for the Millers wilh a thrilling 4-3 decision over Chuck Morene in the 141 pound match. Piquette took the opening points with a takedown only to see Morene use his speed in the second period to tie the match and go ahead with a pen alty point and a reversal. Piquette then reversed positions with Mor ene in tne tinal period as He won the close decision. But tonight it faces a stiff test when it meets fifth-ranked South Eugene, which bounced Thurston of SDrinfffield. 62-41. The well-balanced Roseburg team had four scorers in double figures in the Willamette game. Bo Blair, with 20 points, paced bomn r-ugene in us uiuuihm. Top-ranked Klamath Falls was idle. The Southern Oregon Confer ence leader plavs Crater of Cen tral Point tonight. Fourth-ranked Medford, second in the confer ence, walloped Crater, 70-38, with Bob Quinnev scoring 27 points. He was taken to a doc tor for x-rays and no information was available asto how badly the flashy guard was hurt. In the Jayvee game the host Elks made it a clean sweep of the evenings action as the Elkton Jay vees downed the CBA Jayvees 29 17. Dave Sheffel took the scoring honors for the Elk Jayvees with 12 points,. while Dave Zenor of the Pilot Jayvees took the game's hon ors with 16 points. Irish Never Headed ' The Irish took an early lead over the Oakers and were never headed from the opening min utes of action. The win gives Rid dle a 4-2 league mark and tics the Irish with Sutherlin, Glendale and Douglas in the race to the UVL crown. Oakland is- still winless in six outings as they hold down the le with twin cellar in the standings. the last two quarters the Irish out scored the Oakers 9-8 as the fans cheered the Irish on to the 45-36 win.
