Douglas Trojans Victors Over Myrtle (reek Club Coach Elmer Schweitzer piloted the Douglas Trojans to their sec ond straight Umpqua Valley League victory Friday night as the Trojans rolled to a 55-37 win over the Myrtle Creek Vikings. Sports 2-2 Record With Dan Dodd leading the way the Trojans were never threaten ed as they rolled over the Vikings on the Douglas court. Douglas now sports a 2-2 league mark and are tied with Riddle for fourth place in the standings. Myrtle Creek rests in sixth place in the league stand ings with a 2-3 record. The Hornets and the Eagles now sport identical 5-2 marks and trail the league-leading Powers Cruis ers by one-half game. The Csuisers took over the leadership from the Eagles as the Cruisers rolled over the Canyonville Tigers 62-23. In the final league contest played Fri day the Elkton Elks downed the Days Creek Tigers 53-22. Now In Fourth Elkton now rests in fourth place in the league standings with a 4-2 record. The Elks will travel to Powers to face the Cruisers in to night's only league outing. The con test at Powers will be watched with interest by all the local teams as the Elks go into the game hop ing for an upset over the power ful Cruisers. Royce Kiser of Camas Valley was the league's top scorer in Fri day's round of action as he con tinues to set the point-making pace in Bico-B action. Kiser bucketed 25 counters against the Eagles. Other B players adding to their point totals in Friday's round of play were Conrad Godding of Elk ton with 16 points, Ron Revclle of Yoncalla with 14 points and Shorty Lawson of Powers with 14 points. Camas Valley is now the top scoring team in the league with 413 points in seven games for an average of 59 points-per-game. The cruisers nave loiaica an points in six games for an average of 62.16 points-per-game. Elkton is the top defensive team having allow ed 206 points in six games for an average of 34.33 points-per-contest. A full round of action is slated for Tuesday night with Yoncalla playing at Days Creek, Elkton at Canyonville and Canyonville Bible Academy at Camas Valley. UOWebf oots Win Over Washington 5 EUGENE (AP) The Univers ity of Oregon basketball team de feated Washington of the Big Five 67-48 Friday night and will meet Seattle University here tonight. It was Oregon's most impres sive victory o the season. The Ducks started slow and trailed, except for three tics, un til only 6V4 minutes were left in the first half. Denny Strickland put Oregon ahead 22-21 with a free throw and seconds later he added a field goal. Oregon led 29-26 at the half. In the second period, Oregon moved to a 40-27 advantage. A Washington rally closed the gap to eight points, 44-36, Uie narrow est of the half. Oregon's Charlie Warren, who did not play the final 15 minutes, was high scorer of the game with 18 points. Washington's Bill Han son had 14. Douglas Takes Lead Douglas took the lead in the opening minutes of the game and at the first break were out in front 15-9. The Trojans continued to roll and at halftime enjoyed a 33-22 lead. The Vikings picked up one point on the Trojans in the third quarter only to see Douglas gain a 13-5 advantage in the fourth quar ter. From the field the Trojans con nected on 22 field goals and hit 11 out of 21 shots at the foul line. The Vikings hit only 14 two point ers and made nine out of 21 shots from the free throw marker. Dodd Gets Praise Schweitzer praised Dodd for his tight defensive work and the con trol of the boards for the Trojans. Fox led the winners away from the basket and was cited for con ducting an outstanding game for the Douglas cagers. In the Jayvee game the Myrtle Creek squad downed the Douglas Jayvees 40-36. Indian Jayvees Beat Springfield The Roseburg Junior t Varsity scored over 70 points for its third time in four outings as it rolled over the Springfield Junior Varsity 71-54 Friday night. The Indian Jayvees wasted no time as they broke out in front early in the first quarter and did not stop until the final buzzer sounded. Although the Springfield Jayvees narrowed the gap to 10 points at the end of the third quarter the visitors never really threatened to overtake the. ram paging Roseburg Jayvees. Guard Paul Brothers racked up a total of 20 points for the winners and forward Jim Wassom followed with 18 counters. Guard Spike Moore and center Bruce O'Neill each added 11 points to the Rose burg cause. Dave Bourgeois led the Miller Jayvees with 16 points while Ron Willoughby collected 15 points for the losers. The Indian Jayvees took an ear ly lead and at the quarter breaks held leads of 14-7, 37-23 and 54-43. In the fourth quarter the local Jayvees outscored the Miller Jay vees 18-11. Roseburg hit 31 for 69 field goal attempts for a 44.9 shooting per centage. Tonight the local Jayvees will travel to Marshficld to meet the Marshficld Junior Varsity at 6:15. The game will be played as the preliminary before the Indians tangle with the Pirates. The Cruisers racked up 21-poinls in the initial period as they rolled to the lopsided victory. The win gives Powers a 5-1 mark in league play and moves the Cruisers a half game out in front of Yoncalla and Camas Valley. Lead 21-8 At the end of the first quarter the Cruisers led 21-8 and at half time the Powers cagers were out in front 30-11. Powers continued to roll as it held a comfortable 50 15 lead at the end of three quar ters. The Cruisers again outscored the Tigers in the final stanza as they rolled to the 62-23 victory. Shorty Lawson took the scoring honors for Powers with 14 points. The rest of the Cruisers counters were spread among 10 other play ers as coach Robert Biishncll used his entire roster in the game. High-point honors lor the Tigers went to Fred Grunst with nine points. Cruisers Dominate The Cruisers outscored the Ti gers 28-7 from tiie field and the Tigers held a 9-6 advantage at the foul line. Biishncll stated that the maior difference in the game came under the boards where the Cruisers out-rebounded the Tigers 68.27. Trouble Finding Range the Warriors had trouble find ing the range in the first and third periods as the Saints took advan tage ot the lax periods to build up their margin. The Warriors hit for only nine points in the initial stan za and then scored a mere three counters in the third period while tne haints totaled 19 in the first and 16 in the third. At the end of tho first quarter Ikton Takes From Days Creek Quint Elkton's Elks rolled to a 53-22 victory over t h e Days Creek Wolves Friday night at Elkton in Bico-B League competition as the Elks kept a firm hold on fourth place in the league standings. In Front Early Days Creek had trouble finding the range at Elkton as the Wolves picked up only three points in the first quarter and had only eight points at halftime. The Elks took a 10-3 lead at the first intermis sion and by halftime tho Elkton Cagers were out in front 25-8. Elkton continued to dominate the action as they tallied 12 points in me miro auaricr aim 10 in uiu final stanza while holding the Wolves to seven points each quar ter. As the final buzzer sounded Ihn Elks were on ton 53-22. Conrad Godding set the pace for the Elks with 16 noints while David Gales and Tom Solicm added nine points apiece. Jayvee Verdict The Elks had a 21-8 advantage from the field and the Elkton team made 11 out of 20 foul shots com pared to six out of 15 made by the Wolves. In the nrcliminary contest the Elkton Jayvees downed me Liays Creek Jayvees 43-21. John Lcven hagen tallied 11 points for the win ners and Fred VanNorman scored six points for Days Creek. Elkton will travel to Powers to night for the lone game scheduled in tho Bico-B League. Game time at Powers is 6:30 for the Jayvees and 8 for the varsity. Klam ath Falls won an earlier game, 58-50, but Mcdford can f?h back into a tie for top spot by revers ing the verdict. Hoseburg beat, Springfield, 82 41. It meets Marshficld, victor over Cottage Grove, 63-43. Marsh field, No, 8 in the poll, and Hose burg are lied for top spot in the Midwestern League. Baker Beats LiCrand One minor surprise saw un r a ukod Baker downing La Grande, No. 7 in the poll and un beaten in 14 previous games, 43 38. That enabled tenth-ranked Rend, which whipped Redmond, 57-28. to go into a first place deadlock with La Grande in the Intermountain League. Grant, No. 4, won its 12th in as many Portland League games, beating Benson, 52-47. Wilson, No. 6, stayed right be hind Grant although held to a 62 60 victory over Cleveland. Corvallis Wins Ninth-ranked Corvallis ran Its Valley League record to 7 0 with a 67-66 squeaker over Albany. Unrated South Salem stayed right on Corvallis' heels by downing Nnrlh Salem, 56-41. Tho Portland Metropolitan League has a first place tie. Heavcrton upset Central Catholic, 46-45, in an overtime contest for Central's first league defeat while David Douglas beat Sunset of Beaverton, 57-47, to move even with Central. Parkrost Dropped Parkrose remained on top of the Wilco League despite a 49 38 loss to Srappose. Jesuit of Hea vcrton lost a chance to tic Park- rose when it was defeated by Reynolds of Troutdale, 46-44.
