Pomona Home Economics chair

The meeting was attended by
44 members from Douglas, Coos,
Curry, West Coast. Jackson and
Josephine counties, which comprise
Grange District one. Local Grang
es represented included Fair Oaks,
Sutherlin Community, Sunnydale,
North Douglas, Evergreen, Rivers
dale, South Deer Creek, Myrtle
ireeK ana uunter. Eight . club
Home Economics chairmen . were
present.
Subjects discussed during the
morning business session were the
scholarship fund; the CARE pro
gram carried on by the Granges
tnis year for the - benefit of the
Phillipine Islands; the roll played
by home economics clubs and the
various Grange' contests. Consist
ing of sewing, fancy work, baking
and canning, the contests are spon
sored by many well-known com
panies. The motto- adopted for the Na
tional Grange program this year is

to Attend Meet
The Rev. J. C. Johannes. Meth
odist pastor of the Dillard-Winston
Methodist Church, will be attending
sessions of Methodist Conference
committees scheduled for the First
Methodist Church in Portland, Mon
day through Wednesday.
' These sessions are the mid-year
ooara meetings wnere virtually all
the important plans and projected
budgets are made for adoption at
the major annual conference meet
ings in early June. The meeting of
the Coordinating Council on Wed
nesday morning will highlight
tnese sessions and will be presided

Church. '
Most of the members, minister
ial and lay of the annual confer
ence will be present at these meet
ings. The Rev. Mr. Johannes serv
es on the Board of Hospitals and

reports were read; plans made for
1961; and duties delegated to the
six units of the organization.
Mrs. Paulson reports that the
first unit meetings will be held on
Tuesday. Morning units will meet
at 10 a.m.; afternoon units at 1:30
p.m.; and evening units at 8.

RUSS PLAN BIG BLAST
MOSCOW (AP)-Tass said Sat
urday the Soviet Union will touch
off 7,000 tons of explosive this fall
to begin construction of a dam on
the Malo-Alma Ata Gorge in Ka
zakhstan. The Soviet news agency
said the explosion will be without
precedent and will move 1.7 bil
lion cubic feet of earth.

The Rev. Mr. Rich moved to

Class Report Given
Mrs. Wright and Mrs.' Eugene

ing workshop, reported that class

brush-up course in the sewing

divided in two sections; one, a
short demonstration course for
those taking tailoring; and, sec

members will actually use the
techniques demonstrated and make
a garment if they care to.
Mrs. Harris Nye reported on the
program planning meeting held in.
Roseburg and told of the vast dif
ferences in the life of a house
wife in the fields of family life,
clothing, foods, finance, and house
hold equipment in the present day
as compared to many years ago.
She asked the women to keep this
in mind when suggesting projects
for next year's program.

Glide Church Women
Work On Bandages
The Glide Baptist Ladies' Aid
and Mission Society met at the
church recently for its regular bus
iness meeting and to work on band
ages to be used in the mission

bandages and surgical squares and
anyone having old sheets to do

Mrs. Georgia Shupert of Okla-,
homa City, Okla., arrived this
week to visit her daughter, Mrs.
Arnold Burleson, and family on
Curry Road. Prior to coming here
she had spent some time in Cali
fornia visiting her son who has
been very ill.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Shidler, who
were guests of the latter's brother-in-law
' and sister, Mr. and Mrs.
J. A. Jones on Fisher Road, have
left to spend the remainder of the
winter in Arizona.
Mrs. Marie Richardson of Port
land has left for California for the
winter, after spending three weeks
at the Fisher Road home of her
son-in-law. and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Ed Cardiff, and family.

cepted a teaching position in the
Roseburg school system. She start
ed Wednesday at Roseburg High
School, teaching Spanish. The Bone
brakes are recent residents of Mc
Minnville, where Bonebrake is
studying for his teacher's certifi
cate at Linfield College. He will
remain in McMinnville until he
completes his studies. Mrs. Bone
brake and children, Pixie, Dixie
and David, are residing here at
Rt. 3, Box 640. Mrs. Bonebrake
taught in Glide schools two years
ago.
