" " ' . .- . ..zz2E:-r-L-z::z-.: Firemen Seeking Funds For Center Roseburg Rural Fire Chief Cliff Thrasher today said the state fire department instructors' organiza tion will approach the stale legis lature during its next session to ask for funds to establish a state training center for firemen. Thrasher said they will ask for the training center to be establish ed in Salem, where the stale has some 200 million dollars worth of property. This recommendation came from instructors from various de partments in Ihe slate who met recently in Four Corners. In addi lion to Thrasher, Douglas County was represented by Roseburg Fire Chief Don Starmer and Bt. Chief l.eroy Siebold and Ray Norton, Myrtle Creek Fire Department training instructor. In addition to the stale center, the group voted to work toward establishing centralized training centers in each area. Thrasher said the local firemen plan to ask for aid from the County Court in establishing one in Douglas County. If a tobacco tax is levied in Ore gon, he said they will ask that a j portion of the money raised be giv I en to counties to finance firemen 'education and training centers. "There are over 7.000 firemen in the stale hungry for training," Thrasher said. The state spends more money on training real estate salesmen and nurses than it does to protect life and properly."
