J. B. PATRICK, above, prominent Roseburg resident, cele
brated his 85th birthday Dec. 12. Relatives and friends
called to- congratulate him and enjoy birthday cake and
other refreshments. Many cards and gifts were presented
to him in honor of the occasion. He was born Dec. 12,
1875, in Fort Branch, Ind., and when he was 9 years-old
he moved with his family to Days Creek. He also lived -in
Petaluma, Calif. He was a brakeman with the Southern
Pacific and then promoted to conductor. After 42 years
of service, he retired in 1940. He and his wife both enjoy
good health and many activities. They keep up their own
attractive home and lovely garden themselves. Mr. Pat
rick is an excellent artist and has many pictures in oil,
water colors, charcoal and other mediums. He also enjoys
jig saw puzzles and his birthday found him possessing a
number more in his collection. He has a son, R. L. Patrick,
president of Napa College, Napa, Calif., and two daugh
ters, Mrs. Ora (Ethel) Welker, Roseburg, and Mrs. Pearl
Dunlap, Klamath Falls. Saturday evening, Mrs. Patrick en
tertained at a birthday dinner for him. Additional guests
were Mr. and Mrs. Burdette Peterson. The occasion also

The entryway of the home fea
tured a white feather tree with
red ornaments mounted on an at
tractive hall table. The buffet fea
tured a Santa Claus and reindeer
centerpiece with an arrangement
of silver candelabra with red can-cles.
Calling during the afternoon fair of Friday evening at the beau
tiful home of Mr. ana sirs, ramus
McKee on SE Kane Street. The
home was elaborately decorated in
the holiday motif. Mrs. Richard
Bouey, Mrs. Paul Logan and Mrs.
James Donachie were in charge of
the affair. Christmas gifts were ex
