I f4T v i ' 1 r ' 1" i THE TEEN-AGE DANCE CLASS, taught by William Morti mer every Monday night ond sponsored by the Roseburg Elks Lodge at the Terrace Ballroom for junior and senior high students taking the dancing lessons, held its second onnual Christmas dance Monday evening. Between 50 and 60 attended the affair, which was chaperoned by parents of the teen-ogers. This is the second year for the class and many of the group are most professional in their ' dancing of a wide variety of dances. Ballroom etiquette is also taught by Mr. Mortimer, who is pictured above in the center with his assistants, Dennis Bradley of Eugene, Caroline and Catherine and Greg Smith, twin daughters and son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Elwood Smith of this city. The two couples shown below are Gail McLaughlin and Jeff Payne and SuzAnn Jockson and Johnny Laurance. Winners of the special "freeze" dance for the evening were Barbara Kirby and Chuck Morene, who had the honor of starting the next progressive dance. This weekly Monday night class, from 8 to 10 p.m., was started last year as a prefect by the Elks Club for the young people of Roseburg. Guests gathered I around the piano and sang Christ-1 mas songs, accompanied by Mrs. Carlson and Mrs. Ray Looney. Ta ble games also offered diversion. ' . asw -fir, , 4i i DOUGLAS COUNTY COUNCIL of Epsilon Sigmo Alpha held its annual Sno-Boll Saturday night in the Gold Room of the Umpqua Hotel. Ollie Fosback furnished the music. A beoutifully decorated silver tree with revolving colored flood lights focused on it, dominated the room. The tables were decorated with snowballs and evergreen swags with stars decorating the ceiling and walls. At intermission Mrs. James Wilson, vice president of the council and chairman of the affair, introduced Oregon State's Out standing girl, Mrs. Harry Smith, Beta Pi, Oakland. Mrs. Smith is also the Douglas County Council's Outstanding Girl, crowned this year's winner for the county, Pauline Allen, Beta Pi, Oakland, who was escorted by her hus band, Paul. Her crown was a silver tiara ond she was pre sented with an arm bouquet of red roses. She also received a silver platter engraved "Douglos County Outstanding Girl, Pauline Allen, ESA, 1960." Roseburg Rebekah Lodge 41 Has Yule Party On Tuesday Roseburg Rebekah Lodge 41 met Tuesday, with Kathryn Bovingdon, noble grand, and Minnie Ballon, vice grand, presiding. Present were 40 members. The committee appointed to work on Christmas baskets were Bertha Bayliss, Myrtle Baker, Mary My ers, Bertha Lett a.id Kathryn Bov ingdon. Plans for the joint installation with Philetarian Lodge in Janu ary were discussed. A large white Bible, purchased with the birthday money of mem bers the last year, was dedicated in memory of late departed mem bers. Susie Jackson, chaplain of the lodge presented the Bible, Ruth Plumer acting as her assistant. Kathryn Bovingdon gave the pre sentation, followed by a solo by Lena Poole, accompanied by Day nise Beach, lodge musician.
