Washington Eyes Higher School Cost OLYMPIA (AP) A legislative committee aays Washington's pub lic school costs will go up $42.7 million in the next two years even without pay increases for teach ers, which arc variously recom mended at $27.2 to $61.5 million more. The first figure was reported Monday by a legislative Budget Committee. It predicted an enroll ment increase from 652,994 pupils last Oct. lto 695.300 by Oct. 1, 1962. It said this would send com mon school costs up from $507.3 million this biennium to $550 mil lion in 196163. The report said $4 million could be expected from higher yields oh present taxes and from federal aid, but it didn't suggest how to provide the remaining money. As for teachers' salaries, there are these proposals: By the super intendent of public instruction, an increase of 5.5 per cent or $27.2 million; by Gov. Roscllini, $39.9 million, by tte School Directors' Association, $41 million and by the Washington Education Associa tion, $61.5 million. E mix i cup CARAFE, Reg. 3.95 2.77 KM 1 J U V, " e.
