Returns Home

Cordon Mehl of Glendale has re
turned home after a cruise on a
freighter, Buckeye State, where he
served as third mate. His voyage
took him to Korea, Japan, Okinawa
and China.

him.
Meeting Planned
Plans were recently made at the
home of Mrs. Dick Darrow for a
Rural Women's Club meeting at
the Azalea Grange Hall on Jan. 12.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman King of
Grants Pass, former Glendale resi
dents, are the parents of twin girls
born at the Josephine General Hos
pital in Grants Pass Dec. 13. One
infant weighed 3 pounds 9 ounces
and the other 4 pounds, 6 ounces.
They will have to stay in the incu
bator for about a month or six
weeks until they reach a weight of
S pounds.
Miss Janle Cox of Medford, a
former Glendale resident, was re
cently hospitalized in Medford Sac
red Heart Hospital suffering from
pneumonia. Her mother, Mis. Mil
dred Cox of Glendale, is staying
with her while she recuperates.
Injury Received
Charles Bock of Glendale, who Is
employed by the Bartle Logging
Company, was recently struck in
the face by a hook when a log he
was working with rolled. He suffer
ed a small cut above his left eye
brow, a cut inside his lower lip.
One tooth was also loosened.
Mr. and Mrs. Connie O'fioke of
Glendale wore recently visited by
Mr. and Mrs. John Seets of Cor
nelius, former Glendale residents.

Corvallis Schools Plan
Huge Bond Issue Vote
CORVALLIS (AP) - A combined
election for bond issuen totaling
$2 million is planned by tha Cor
vallis School District and tha city
of Corvallis.
The board will seek approval
of a million bond issue to
pay for an addition to tho high
school, a new elementary school,
and additions to two other ele
mentary schools.
The city wants $.100,000 tor a
covered selmminK pool, a new
library building, and an addition
to the central fire station.
The elections are to be held late
in March.

Organize WCTU
A group of IS Yoncalla women
recently met at tho home of Mrs.
Delbert Dickey to organize a Yon
calla chapter of the Woman's
Christian Temperance Union.
County correspondent secretary,
the Rev. Valeria L. Cleveland, was
in charge of the worship service.
After the discussion of the need
and the possibility of an organiza
tion, under the direction of the
County President Mrs. C. N. Cur
rier, pledge cards were passed, the
pledge read, the dues explained
and an invitation given for those
present to become members.
Sixteen pledges were signed, and
an organization was formed. The
following officers wore elected.

Mrs. Lcroy Hopkins, vico presi
dent; Mrs. Ren Holllstcr, corre
sponding secretary; Mrs. Larry
Baldwin, treasurer; and Mrs. Rob

Benton Considering
County Home Rule
CORVALLIS (AP)-A form of
county government that would al
low an elected council to appoint
an administrator, but would re-;
quire the administrator to put his
record on the ballot every four
years, is being considered by the
Benton County Home Rule Com
mittee.
The committee said a council
administrator form of govern
ment was desired by most county
residents. However, many want a
direct control of the adminis
trator. By allowing the council to ap
point the administrator, the com
mittee said, a more capaulo per
son might be obtained. To give
the people more direct control
over him, tho requirement that
his record be put toa vote also
