L. -Hardenbrook, who under went major surgery 10 days ago at Mercy Hospital for a ruptured appendix, is now reported to be convalescing satisfactorily at his home on SE Cass Avenue. Mrs. H. L. McHanry of Portland spent the last few days here at tending to property interests and visiting her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Kohl hagen. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Barclay and children, Eddie and Barbara, have returned to their home in Eugene after spending the week end here with Mrs, Barclay's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wil son of Foothill Drive. Bill Mlr of Coquille, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Luke of Salem and Mrs. Bob Gibbel of Yreka. Calif.. were here this week for the funeral of Elmer Hicks. Melson is a neph ew of Mrs. Hicks and Mrs. Luke and Mrs. Gibbel are nieces. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Lewis of Port Orford were here last weekend to visit at the home of the lalter's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Nelson. The Nelsons' daughter, Jeannie, returned to Port Orford with her uncle and aunt and will remain there to go to school and assist Mrs. Lewis who is been ill. -Richard Maroiok, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Marosok. has ar rived in Roseburg 'to spend the college vacation visiting his par ents. He is a student at Oregon State College. The Marosks' daugh ter, Ardath, who has been visiting here from Beverly Hills, Calif., preparatory to making a trip around tne world in January, has postponed her trip, because of un settled world conditions. Instead, she will return in January to Bev erly Hills until spring and will start on her trip then if it proves feasible. David Brooks, who is stationed t Vandenberg AFB at Santa Maria, Calif., arrived Sunday to see his fiancee. Miss Sue Mere dith, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Meredith. David's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Shipley of Reedsport, were also Sunday visitors at the Meredith home. They returned to Reedsport and David left soon after to spend a few days with his parents.- He is back here now and will be a house- guest at the Meredith home until Sunday when he will be married to Miss Meredith. Origin Of Christmas ' Songs Told At Meet At the monthly meeting of the Women's Society of Christian Serv ice of the Roseburg First Metho dist Church, Mrs. William Regele gave the origin and meaning of the various Christmas hymns and car ols. , Mrs. Regele staled why the meaning, in most cases, is the same today as it was years ago. The all-day session -began with an executive board meeting, follow ed by the prayer group meeting. A luncheon was served by mem bers of the Ruth Circle.
