Castle Rock1 Couple Visits Tiller Daughter, Family Guests this week at the home of Mr. and Airs. Fred .J. Huffman and family of Tiller are her par ents, Air. and Airs. A. R. Rey nolds of Caslle Rock, Wash. They were en route home after spend ing the past month in California, and will visit a son, Howard Rey nolds and family at Oakridge. when they leave here, according to Airs. The Huffmans have heard from their son, Holland, a student at the University of Alaska near Fairbanks, that temperatures there have gone as low as 36 de grees below zero recently, and that during a ten-day period, the high registered was 10 degrees below zero. Dwain Lewis of Umpqua, has com pleted his enlistment in the Navy and returned to Umpqua where he plans to live for the present time. Event Attended Air. and Airs. Ed Clark and son and Delmar Alurphy and daugh ter drove to Eugene recently to attend the wrestling match. Charles Germond has moved into a small house on the prop erty of his niece Airs. Carl Judd near Umpqua on Tyee Road. He plans to make his home there. He formerly lived here and is one of the oldest residents of this area. Airs. Lafe Judd and Air. and Airs. John Brown have left for Alesa. Ariz., where they will visit the former's brother-in-law and sister. Air. and Airs. h. Phelpes. Airs. Phelpes, who use to drive the Umpqua Roseburg school bus, is well-known in this area. The December meeting of the Umpqua School Association will be held Friday evening in the school auditorium. Murphys Visit Mother Air. and Airs. Delmar Alurphy and family drove to Cottage Grove recently where they were dinner guests at the home of her mother, Mrs. E. Lansong. They returned home the same evening. Aliss Susan Clvde and Alisses Betty and Donna Miller, all of Portland, were weekend guests at the home of the latter's great aunt, Bear At Cow Creek Killed By Hunters Virgil Campion and Vernon AIc Alichael of Azalea killed a 400 pound bear on the Campion place up Cow Creek this week, accord ing to Airs. G. B. Fox, News- Re view correspondent. Airs. Campion said the men had set traps after they noticed a number of tracks in the area. Judging from the tracks, there are probably at least two more bears. Stroke Effects Airs. Edith AlcAIichael of Azalea, who suffered a severe stroke sev eral days before Thanksgiving, is reported to be somewhat improved. She had been in a coma until Sunday, Nov. 27, and while she is now conscious, she is still un able to speak. Air. and Airs. Hal Booth of Aza lea and his sister. Airs. Frank Bailey of Sacramento, who has been visiting with the Booths since Alonday, Nov. 28. drove to Look ingglass on Wednesday to visit with another sister, Airs. Jean Swan, and with her daughter, Airs. Grant Neilsen, who had just been released from the hospital in Eu gene. Airs. Bailey was to return to her home in California on Fri day. Hiram Hauk of Azalea was driv ing along Upper Cow Creek Road, above Azalea, Alonday, when a deer jumped off a bank in front of his car. Hauk's car was badly damaged in the front end by the . collision, Tenmiie Couple Attends Funeral Air. and Airs. Earl Ollivant have returned from California where Ihev were called by the sudden death of Mrs. Ollivant's brother Buford Steele. Before returning home they visited with his sisters Mrs. Alaud Bacon at Berkeley and Airs. Collins became very ill, and has been confined to his bed this week. although he is reported somewhat better. Several families of the Drew community gathered for a DoUnck Thanksgiving observance at the Club 227 hall. About 30 persons shared the holiday feast and en joyed an afternoon of games and visiting. Bruce Wills, who had flown from England, where her husband has been stationed with the Air Force for the past two vears. Airs. Strand has purchased a site for parking his trailer home in Empire and hat a well down on the property.
