The total state tax bill is the highest in history, $9 5 million above the $190 million levied i throughout the state in 1959-60. On a per capita basis, the 1960-61 state wide levy amounts to $113. 7b lor ' every man, woman and child. Of the $199 million levies for . the cerrent year, $135 million or 67 per cent is for school purposes. In I Douglas County $5,234,519.99 or about 75 per cent of the total tax levy is for school purposes. Of the 31 Oregon counties show ing over-all property tax increas es, the largest jump was in Curry County where a sharp 31.8 per cent increase was recorded. Next largest increase in the general pur pose property tax levy was in 23.4 per cent increase. Benton County had a 18.9 per cent jump and jetlcrson county taxes in creased by 17.7 per cent. Six counties, Benton, Curry, Jef ferson, Lane, Morrow and Tilla mook, showed school levy increas es of 20 per cent or more. Jackson County continues to be the only county in the state which did not make a property tax levy for county purposes, this being pos- siole oecause ot liDeiat u t i revenue. Only five of Oregon's counties were able to show a reduction in the total property tax levy for the current fiscal year. These were Douglas, Grant. Sherman, Wallowa and Wheeler.
