That's the safest, surest and most certain weather forecast you can find. Even in the tropics in the rainy season jou could safely predict sunny weather in the mod ern laundry iqom. une reason of course, is that modern appliances like the auto matic washer and dryer have lib erated washday from the weather outside, Grandmother, of course, lust had to wait for a eood "drvine day.'V And even then, some of the good drying days were so hot that she could take little eniovment lrom tne prospect of standing over Dotting wasn iuds. lodaya housewife, of course, need never move outside of her laundry room and the whole uroc ess of modern laundering is so easy and carefree that the lady ot tne nouse couidn t care less about what the weather outside is like. But freedom from worry about tne weamer is only one reason for the "sunny" disposition of wo men who have a modern electric laundry in their home. Actually, them because all the "clouds" that once hung over washday have been dissipated by today's labor saving appliances, new achieve ments in soil-resistant and care free fabrics, and spectacular ad vances in soaps, detergents, bleach es and starches. Consider for a moment the chang es which electrical appliances have made in washday. Can you re member the hand scrubbing, the boiling of clothes, the transferring of heavy wet laundry from one tub to another? With today's wash ers the housewife need do nothing but set the controls and turn the machine on. From that point an array of mechanical brains and capable electrical servants take over and do the washing. Some machines have automatic controls which with one button select the correct water tempera ture, washing time, number of rinses and spin cycle. Another design advance permits bleaches and fabric softeners to be added at the start for injection at the right cycle. And years ago, after the clothes had been washed, they had to be loaded in a basket, the basket car ried upstairs and the heavy, cum bersome laundry hung on the line. Then you worried about the weath er, smoke, wind-blown dirt and a dozen other potential catastroph ies. In today's laundry the damp dry clothes are moved from the washer to the neighboring dryer, a switch is turned on and all drying headaches have been taken care of. Easy as this sounds, it isn't the last word in laundry convenience. If you get a combination washer dryer, your clothes are washed' and dried without any attention from you at all. Finally, the clothes must be ironed. That once could mean but one thing exhausting hours standing over an ironing board. But modern ironers have taken the physical werk out of ironing while at tne same lime drastically re ducing the time needed for this operation. Is it so surprising then that women who own modern laundries have a sunny disposition when it comes to washday. For them it's obvious that in their laundries, at least, the sun really does shine 365 days a year. i , ieM GAY BALLOONS go well with this lovely print dress for the young lady. A tinge of orown or yenow reauces ine price. Very often the trace of color is so faint that it cannot be seen by an untrained eye. Diamonds with strong, clear col ors such as pink, red, brown and green are beautiful and cost more, but a fine white one is the ideal. A "blue-white" diamond is one which shows no traces of color oth er than blue. The term "blue white is incorrect when used to describe a diamond which is ac tually white. Diamonds with any trace of blue are rare and high priced. Cut, the third factor affecting a diamond's price, refers to the skill with which the facets (tiny planes) were ground onto the diamond for the maximum brilliance. Basic diamond cuts are the round, emerald-cut, pear-shape and marquise. A round diamond, also called a brilliant-cut, looks well on all hands. An emerald-cut has straight sides and comes in both square and oblong contours. The pear-shape, wide at one end and tapering to a point at the other, is worn with the point toward the fin ger tip. A marquise diamond is pointed on both ends. Heart-shape and oval-cut dia monds are new and more unusual choices. The clarity of a diamond refers to the absence of carbon spots or other imperfections. A diamond is rated as flawless only if it shows no blemishes when studied under a glass that magnifies ten times. However, most flaws cannot be seen with the naked eye. A flaw may not affect the beauty of the diamond, but it definitely lowers the price. . Do you want a one-carat dia mond? If you're diamond shop ping, you'll see that prices vary. No two diamonds are alike; each has different "Four C" qualities. Very often a small diamond is more expensive than a larger one. A flawless diamond is hfgher pric ed than one with a "bubble." If the cut of a diamond is no( good, it cuts down the stone's brilliance and, consequently, its price. The final decision is yours, but temper your diamond decision wilh the sound advice of a trusted jewel er. A Leather Chair Can Win A Heart Getting together for an old fash ioned Christmas this year?
