U. S. May Reduce Tariff Exemption For Its Own Travelers Overseas To Conserve Money Needed At Home WASHINGTON (AP)The gov ernment may cut down on spend ing by V. S. tourists il the loss of dollars and gold to foreign coun tries is not stemmed by measures President Eisenhower ordered last week. Rob ' ert B. Duncan is one vote from victory in his campaign for re ; election as speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives for the 1961 legislative session. At a Democratic caucus here Saturday he won the votes of 28 representatives-elect. Later Rep. Katerine Musa, The Dalles, said in a telephone conversation that she would support Duncan, and so did Rep. Juanita Orr, Oak Grove. Rep. George Annala. Hood River, said he still is undecided. Duncan needs 31 votes to win the post. The legislature will have 31 Democrats and 29 Republicans. Duncan said he came to the caucus with less than 20 voles ' ENJOY YOUR... Clarence Barton outlined the tax program which the interim com mittee on taxes will present to the next session. It will call for a 10 per cent reduction in income taxes with the loss to be made up by a 3-cent-per-package tax on cigarettes. L. L. Stewart, president of the Associated Oregon Industries, said a new proposal for three-way in dustrial accident coverage would be a good thing. George Brown, director of the AFL-C10 politi cal education committee, dis agreed. Brown said also that Carl Gib son, the labor member of the in terim labor management commit tee, does not represent labor's point of view. Cecil Posey of the Oregon Edu cation Association said his group will ask the state to assume 50 per cent of the operational costs of schools within three years. Violinist MOSCOW (AP) A comDara- tively unknbwn young New York City ' violinist here has scored the biggest and most unexpected American musical triumph in Moscow since Van Cliburn. Joyce Klissler was kept on the stage or ischaikovsky Hall by a I storm' of applause for almost an hour after the end of her violin concert. An audience made up mostly of professional and ama teur musicians demanded six encores. Miss Flissler, the wife of Ralph Mendelsohn, a violinist in the New York Philharmonic Orches tra, came to the Soviet Union for a three-week tour. She was here the first time in 1958, the year LiiDurn won tne Ischaikovsky piano competition that catapulted mm to tame.
