Sunday Open House Held At Lewis G. Wilson Home A most enjoyable social event of Sunday was the open house held at the new home of Mr. and Jilis. Lewis G. Wilson on Ball! Street in West Roseburg Relatives of the couple arranged the affair and friends were in vited to call between 2 and 9 p.m. Gorgeous arrangements of fall flowers graced the lovely home. Airs. Jack Leonard was in charge of the decorations. The serving table, covered by white damask, was most' attrac tive with yellow tapers, fall flow ers and the lovely cake decorated in yellow orange and white by .Mrs. Marshall Haughn. Mrs. Roy Hebard and Mrs. Gary Kummert poured punch and coffee. The cake was served by Mr. Wil son's sister. Mrs. Roy Barton, of Coquille. Mrs. Robert Harrison presented the guest book. The bride-elect is in the Women's Army Corps station ed at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and is now home on leave. The bridegroom-elect is stationed at the Naval Air Force Base in Tucson, Ariz. Plans were made for tha ex hibit to be held at the Douglas county Library Friday, Nov. 18, at which time some SO objects of art will be exhibited by 25 ex hibitors. Plans were also made for a rummage sale and bazaar to be held at the Roseburg Wo men a Clubhouse Dec. 10. Kach member of the club exhibited an object of art at the meeting. Guy Cole of Oakland was the scene of a recent small-scale school re union of Upper Tyee School from the year 1914. Present were Airs. Alva Alan- ning, teacher, and the following former pupils: Madge Miner, Dora Hamilton, Hazel Baird, Alta Cole, Alerte Baird, Maude Cole and Guy Cole. All of the women's husbands were present. This was the first meeting of Mrs. Manning and Miss Alta Cole in 46 years; 40 for others of the group. They were entertained by the showing of slide pictures by Aliss Cole, who is employed by the White Slag Co. of Portland. Aliss Cole and her 90-year-old father had driven down from Portland to spend the weekend with the Guy Coles. The slides had been taken by Alias Cole on her vaca tion trips to Canada and various parts of the United States and were greatly enjoyed Dy me group. Lovely Shower Given On Friday 1 Airs. The Immigration Service wants to send him to Finland. 8 The News-Review, Roseburg, Salem Church Of Interest To The lovely wedding of Aliss Car ol Klaboe and David Alichael Pat ten waa solemnized October 15 at 3 p.m. in the First Presby terian Church at Salem. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Klaboe of Salem and former Roseburg residents. The church was . beautifully decorated with baskets of yellow and bronze chrysanthemums. Tall candelabras formed an arch at the altar. Airs. W. Dobbs, at the organ, played Lords Prayer" and "I Love You." The impressive double ring ser vice was performed by Dr. Paul Poling, pastor ot the church. The bride, escorted to the altar by her father, was beautifully gowned in a floor-lenglb Chantilly lace over white taffeta with fitted bodice and full llared skirt and Sabrina neck-line. Her full, finger tip veil was held in place with a pearl tiara. She carried a cascade of chrysanthemums and white sat in ribbon, centered with a while orchid. Her maid of honor, Aliss Fat Myarvold. and the bridesmaids. Miss Anna Lee and Aliss Karen Slater, all of Salem, wore identi cal dresses of light green, with dark green trim. They carried cas cades of yellow and bronze chrys anthemums. For her going away the bride wore a royal blue suit .with black patent leather accessories. The young couple left for a honeymoon to coastal points of interest on the northern California coast, return ing by the inland route. They stopped at Umpqua for a short visit. Thev are now at home to their friends in their new home which they built in the country, east of Salem. The bride attended Roseburg High School until the family moved to Salem. Thelma Wilson, home eco nomics teacher at Sutherlin High School for the past fourteen years, was honored with a skit entitled "This is Your Life, Airs. Wilson", presented at an alumni program during the high school homecoming events recently. Airs. Wilson, a teacher in Ore gon schools for 38 years, began her teaching career at the age ot 17 as a graduate of Ashland High School. Her first teaching assign ment was the first eight grades at Alurphy, whose students, all boys had brought about the hasty departure of a number of her predecessors. Even though the job payed a mere 140 per month and required her to rise at 4:30 each morning Airs. Wilson was determined to keep, the position, and soon won over her young charges with a program of snorts. traveling with her track and base ball teams to compete with other schools. She remained in this position for two years alter wnicn she en rolled at Oregon State College at Corvallis, earning a B. A. degree. Airs. Wilson installed the home economics departments in schools at Kirov, Oakland and Sutherlin. While at Kirby she drew out her plans on the building floor with chalk and the school board, fol lowing her directions, installed the necessary equipment. Coming with her parents to Ore gon from Pennsylvania at the age of eight. Airs. Wilson grew up in Roseburg. where her father was associated with the First National Bank. Mariners Club onsors Dinner The Alariners Club of the Rose burg First Presbyterian Church sponsored a most enjoyable pro gressive dinner for couples of the church Saturday evening. The social affair was planned by Air. and Airs. Clifford Domas, Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Huston. Air. and Airs. Pete Smith and Air. and Airs. C. H. Clune, who also served the- main course and dessert in the church social room. The fall motif was carried out in the dec orations and included gold horns of plenty on each dinner table. Mont., depart ment president of the ladies of the Grand Army -of the Republic, has been on interesting visitor in Roseburg at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William C. Woods, The state convention is to be held in Great Falls in June. Mrs. Kors- ' lund has credentials from two grandfathers and o great grandfather who. were in the Civil War. She hos been active for years in church and civic organizations. She worked on the election board for the last 20 years and has a citation from the Red Cross for baking fruit bread for use of Blood Bank donors. She has a collection of more than 400 pair of salt and pepper shakers from almost every state in the union ond some foreign countries. She also collects antiques. Mrs. Korslund is very interested in the youth of her state and on a trip around the' country she collects various articles to take back to be used in class work in the schools. John Dillen, Worshipful Alaster, conferred the degree of honorary past master upon two members of the lodge, Sam Flory and Frank Woodley. Howard Edson, district ' deputy to the grand master of the Atasons in Oregon, presented them with past master's aprons. Past masters present at the af fair were Carl Seiner, Paul El dredge, Homer Burke, Howard Ed son, Joe W. Payne, A. T.
