i ! 14 The Ntwt-Revitw, Rojfrurg, Relatives Recently Visit AtClark Home In Umpqua By MRS. GEORGE MUNSON Jlr. and Mrs. Herbert Luper of Fnrlland; Mr. and Mrs. George Hennessey of Coos Bay; Mrs. A. Grimmett of Anderson, Calif.; Thomas Clark of Redding, Calif.; and Melvin Clark of Panama, Fla., all visited at the home of Benja min Clark in Umpqua last week. The visitors were called by the recent death of their father and 'brother, John Clark, who was vis iting in Umpqua from Idaho. His son, Melvin, who is with the Navy, was flown to Umpqua from the Caribbean Sea. He formerly lived in Umpqua and attended some time at Oakland Hich School. This was his first return to Umpqua for six years. Rippstalns Visit Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Rippstein and daughter of Springfield were recent guests at Umpqua. They visited at the home of their daugh ter. Mrs. James Schulze. Miss Martha Clarke of Umpqua left by plane recently for Io An spies Calif., where she plans to spend the winter at the home of her sister, Mrs. Kathrine Smith. Reggie Drinkwuler of Medford Camas Valley Visit Scene Mrs. Mae Brown, and son Rog er of Springfield; spent the past weekend al the home ot air. and Mrs. Jtoss Halterman on Burma Road, Camas Valley, The Browns are former residents, and lived in the home now occupied by the Haltcrmans, according to Mrs. Wil liam L. Banks, News-Heview cor respondent. Visit Coast Mr. and Airs. Clyde Spurlock visited al the coasl for a few days visiting al the home of relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Hoy Thurston have returned to their home in upper Camas Valley, following a trip lo Crescent t-iiy, cam. Mrs. Cecil Halterman has re turned to her home following sev eral weeks visiting relatives in Slilwell and Ponca City, Okla. Re turning with her lo spend several Hays is her twin sister, Mrs. Floyd Bacon of SUlwelL Mr. and Mrs. Guy R. Moore, and Mr. and Airs. Neal Brown attended the Rural Letter Carriers Association meeting held Sunday in Stilherlin. Moore presided at the meeting. Carriers from Douglas, , Coos, and Lane Counties enjoyed the potluck dinner thai preceded the meeting. J Thanksgiving . Event Plans are under way for the annual' Thanksgiving Community dinner to be held at the Grange Hall on Sunday, Nov. 20. Grange H.E.C. membcTs will announce completed plans in the near future. The regular meeting of the Cain as Valley School board will be held Monday Nov. 14, 7 p.m. al the school. . Members of the Camas Valley Farm Bureau Federation are re minded that the regular meeting of the group will be held Friday Nov. 11 at the home of Mr. and Airs. Richard Thrush in upper Camas Valley. The meeting will be followed by a card party. ' Rifuia Art Opan : All residents of the valley are asked to note that the refuse area at the top of the mountain is now open from 8 to 3 on Saturdays. The area is for the dumping of all non-combustible material (ex cluding old car bodies I only. Air. and Mrs. J. D. Powell and two sons have returned to Okla homa following several weeks spent in Camas Valley. Mrs. Pow ell is the former Doloris Parrett, daughter of Mr. and Airs. Karl Parrett, of Camas Valley. The Powells plan on returning to the valley next spring. Cub Scout Pack 436 Holds Open House The first pack meeting of Cub Scout Pack 436 was an open house held at the Green School recently Cub Scout llastcr John R. Myers Jr. and the assistant master held the bobcat ceremony al which time 17 hoys received pins. Fiftieth anniversary achievement awards were presented to: Jim Ilaaf. Danny Cox and Ricky Har em. Service pins for one year wrif awarded to: Kenneth Coble, Scott Apple, Richard Vcach. Wayne Kit tleson, Don Coble. Bobby Pierson, Mark Campbell, Tommy Gruwell, Jerry llarryman and Byron Baker. Danny Cox received a one-year service pin and a ituld and silver arrow on wolf badge. Club Elects Officers Officers for the Melrosr Dad's Club were elerled at a recent meet ing of Ihe group, held at the Mel-' rose School, according lo Nettie Woodruff, correspondent. K. W. (Duke) l.athan was elected president; Msrvin Clafflin, vice president; and Ted Reere, secretary-treasurer. Plans for Ihe club's booth at Ihe school carnival were completed.
