Price Of Gold Soars In
LONDON (AP) - The Drice of
gold on the London bullion market
shot up to $40.04 a fine ounce
Monday in a renewal of the specu
lative buying which has unsettled
the world's financial centers.
Bullion dealers had fixed the
price at $37.52 at the opening of
the day's dealings. But within five
pinnules the price shot up $2.52.
Last week's closing price was
$36.96 after the metal at one point
hit a peak of S40.6O.
The official U.S. Treasury price
is $35 a fine ounce.
"The bubble has certainly not
burst," said a spokesman for one

any plan to raise the gold price,
which would in effect devalue the
dollar.
"It seems clear," said the
spokesman for the London bullion
firm, "that speculators are taking
little notice of the denial by the
U.S. Treasury. The demand is
not as heavy as it was last week.
but it is steady."

geon Hinkle formerly of Canyon
vilie, now all of Hichwood, W. Va
is convalescing in a Philadelphia,
I'enn., hospital following amputa
tion of both arms as a result of
burns from a 13,000 volt electric
wire a week ago.
Hinkle was helping his father
and associates heady a coal mine
for operation and was working on
scaffolding directly above his fa
ther when he grabbed the high
tension wire. He was knocked un
conscious and dropped into his fa
ther's arms. So much electricity
remained in his body, li is father
received a severe jolt.
Mouth to mouth respiration and
an oxygen tank revived the young
man who summoned enough
strength to walk part way to the
ambulance which arrived on the
scene one and a half hours after
the accident..
Severe burns necessitated the
amputation, but the young man
was up and around in a few days
and his recovery termed "miracu
lous" by attending physicians. He
is married and the couple expect
their first baby shortly.
Canyonvilie relatives indicate
that the whole family tentatively
plans to return to Oregon where
they lived for several years and
where Jinks attended high school,
according to Virginia Proctor, cor

dale, left recently for Phoenix,
Ariz., to visit her brother,' George
Harrington, and family. While
there, she will attend the wedding
of her nephew.
Relatives Visit
Visiting recently at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. L. V. Cotlrell were
the latter's brother-in-law and sis
ter, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Weeks, of
Portland. The birthdays of Mr. and
Mrs. Cottrell and Mrs. Weeks oc
curred on consecutive days while
the visitors were here.
Charles Barrackman and Clar
ence Wescott have returned from a
successful hunting expedition to Sil
ver Lake. They each had tags for
a special hunt in the area.
Mr. and Mrs. John Burkhart and
their son-in-law and daughter, Mr.
and Mrs. H. B. Kruse, are spending
a vacation in Moab, Utah. They
are visiting relatives of Mrs. Burk
hart. While there, the men plan to
go deer hunting. '
Mrs. Vern Shields and daughter
of Myrtle Point spent a night with
the former's sister, Mrs. Don
Kruse, and family recently. They
continued on to Eugene the next
day to attend to business.
