Greek Row Robbed
CORVAI.LIS (AP) Police say
thieves lifted some $500 from the
wallets of sleeping students in six
Oregon State College- dormitories
and fraternities last weekend. The
biggest loss, $165, was suffered by
Kappa Sigma members.
Fourll) Debate May Be Last For Campaign
WASHINGTON (AP) The
fourth television debate between
the nresirlential candidates Friday
night probably will be the last of
the campaign.
Vice President Richard M. Nix
on, the Republican candidate,
has turned down a proposal
by his opponent, Sen. John F.
Kennedy, for a fifth debate. He
blamed scheduling difficulties.
Although Kennedy asked Nixon
to reconsider, there seemed little
chance their representatives!
would agree on anything beyond1
the fourth joint appearance.
Instead, Nixon suggested chins
ing the format of the fourth de
bate. First, he proposed extending
it from one hour to two hours and,
second, he suggested the candi
dates respond to questions from
the public as well as questions
from newsmen. But Kennedy re
jected the whole idea.
Nixon's position on a fifth de
bate drew some barbed remarks
from Kennedy. In Columbus,
Ohio, Kennedy said: "I don't un
derstand how anyone can stand up
to (Soviet Premier) Khrushchev,
can argue with Khrushchev, can
put his finger in Khrushchev's
face, but can't meet his Demo
cratic opponent here in the United
States."
WILBUR MEET SET
A meeting of census takers for
the Wilbur-Winchester School area
will be held Wednesday at the
Wilbur School at 1 p.m., reports
Mavis Bintliff, correspondent. In
structions and materials to work
with will be given at that time.
A Nixon aide, Fred C. Scribner,
gave this explanation for the vice
president's rejection of a fifth
debate: "The original agreement
was for four debates and their
dates and forms were arrived at
by negotiation by the parties. To
reach agreement, several conces
sions and campaign changes had
to be made by both sides.
"Following the agreement, we
then planned our campaign, in
cluding steps to visit 50 states. It
has not been possible to change or
cancel these plans at this time."

Algerians Get Russ Machinery
MOSCOW (AP)-The Soviet Un
ion is following up its de facto
recognition last week of the Al
gerian rebel regime by shipping
machinery to Algerian refugees in
Tunisia.
The trade union newspaper
Trud said the ship Fateh now is
being loaded at Odessa with
machine tools, tractors, automo
biles, farm machinery, food, med
icine and clothing.
Previously, the Soviet Union has
sent only food to Tunisia for the
Algerians. Tunisia is the seat of
the Algerian rebel government as
well as the training and supply
base for the guerrilla forces
fighting the French.
