Aurelio H. Rcpato, University of Oregon exchange student from the Philippine Island, was guest speaker at a recent meeting of the Camas Valley PTA, reports Mrs. William Banks, correspondent. Lt. Repato is a public information and historical officer in the Philip pine Air Force. He entered the service in 1950 and has since serv ed as editor of the Philippine Air 1 Force Digest and editor of the Phi lippine Skyways. He has over 100 feature articles, biographies and short stories printed. He spoke on "The Filipino's Fight Against Com munism." He is a member of the National Press Club and is con tinuing his education on public re lations courses at the University of Oregon, Eugene. Business taking place at the meeting included an announcement by Mrs. Leslie Catchpole, mem bership chairman, of a contest among the grade school students for securing new PTA members. Students will be divided into two groups with the first through fifth competing in one group and the sixth through eighth in the second. Prizes will be awarded the win ners. The first well-baby clinic will be held Nov. 8 at the school from 2 to 4 p.m. Any pre-school child may be examined. For further in formation end appointments call Mrs. Ed Dahl. An organizational meeting for the Cub and Boy Scouts will be held in the school cafeteria Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Scout personnel from Roseburg will assist at the meet ing. The scout program is sponsor ed by the PTA. Eleanor Explains Tea Party With Khrushchev NEW YORK (AP)-Why did Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt ask Soviet Premier Khrushchev to tea here last week? It was plain politeness, she ex plained Friday. "I made up my mind to have him for tea this time," she said, "because I felt badly about his visit to Hyde Park last year. He was so rushed then he didn't have time for lunch and it wasn't his fault. "He just took a roll, said 'one for the road,' and was off." What did they talk about during his hour-long visit to her Manhat tan residence? The economy of the Soviet Un ion, she said. He boasted of new discoveries in iron ore, of new oil and coal fields and Soviet steel output. "He never mentioned the United Nations," Mrs. Roosevelt added. Hestons Return Mr. and Mrs. Glen Heaton have returned to Oakland following a yisit with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Oil er, at Areata, Calif. While there they assisted in the care of a new grandson, born to the latter couple. They also visited with their sons and families in California before returning home. Lutheran Churches Approve Merger ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. Y., president of the UCLA, said a "New Zion" with 3,100,000 members will be formed. WASHINGTON (AP) - For two weeks, the United States has tested a device that could lead to the detection of nuclear explo sions hundreds of thousands- of miles in space. The device, a ground-based ra diation detector, has been tested at Los Alamos, N.M. Its use was announced Friday by the Atomic Energy Commission.
