' PREP SCORES Washington Hands Stanford Defeat STANFORD, Calif. (AP) Wash ington's Huskies powered their way to a 2910 football victor over Stanford Saturday, but i wasn't enough to make Coach Jim Owens happy. "Why can't we put one, whole good game together," Owens asked after escorting his Huskies back to Seattle Sunday. "We've played four games so far and haven't looked good in any of them except in stretches." Maybe so. but Charlie Mitchell looked mighty good in one stretch there when he grabbed up a Stan ford punt on the Huskie 41 and ran all the way for a touchdown. All-America quarterback Bob Schloredt passed 33 yards to Lee Folkins for one touchdown and ran 10 yards for another. George Fleming's 25-yard field goal opened the Husky scoring. A 35 yard pass from.Bob Hivner to Ray Jackson contributed the final TD late in the game. The Detroit Lions used 17 doten "day" footballs and 7 dozen "night" footballs during the 1959 National Football League Season, CORVALUS (AP)-Oregon Stale has beaten a Big Ten team for only the second time in history but in winning apparently has lost for some time its starting tailback Don Kasso. Kasso suffered a severe knee wrench Saturday as the Staters whacked Indiana 20-6 at Bloom ington, and was placed in the in firmary here immediately after the team arrived back in Corvallis Sunday. "It's very doubtful that Kasso will play this week," an Oregon Slate team spokesman said. He added that doctors plan extensive examinations of the injured play er today. Three other players, Including guard Norby Keolanui, also were in the infirmary. Keolanui. too, suffered a knee wrench. And end Roger Johnson has a shoulder dis location. Kasso has been a key to Oregon Stale's record of three victories and one loss this season. However, Oregon Stale might not feel it too badly if be is sidelined for only a week, as the Staters next Satur day play in Moscow against Ida ho, winless after four games and a 33 6 loser to Utah, State last Saturday. Kasso's understudy is sopho more Terry Baker, who has filled the role so well he is OSC's lead ing gainer, with 427 yards in four games. He helped set up all three (JSC scores against Indiana, and completed three of four passes for 47 yards. The victory over Indiana was but Oregon Stale's second over a Big Ten opponent. And the Staters thus became the only team from the West to turn the trick this season. Indiana, however, has been something less than a sensation i in the Midwest tnis year, ine touchdown they scored against OSC was but their second of the season. The game drew a crowd of only 23.594. Baker did his best passing in OSC's first drive. He completed throws of 20 and nine yards to set up Kasso's scoring plunge from two yards out. That was early in the second period. But the fourth quarter, Indiana's defense wilted, and Chuck Marshall boomed over from two and 12 yards out for OSC's finals touchdowns. "Anytime you beat a Big Ten team you just have to be happy about it." coach Tommy Prothro said. "There just isn't an easy Big Ten opponent." Prothro said he does not regard Idaho lightly as an opponent. He recalled that OSC's Rose Bowl team of 1956 had to rally in the waning moments for a 14-10 vic tory over the Idaho team, Score by quarters: Oregon Stale 0 T 0 1320 Indiana 0 0 6 06 OSC Castle 2 plunge (Anker sen kick).
