Eaton says Americans are not being correctly informed about Russia and the countries in its sphere of influence. Speaking before a capacity au dience at a women's city club luncheon Friday she said it was becoming increasingly difficult to get the facts from newspapers and that what people heard of Russia and its so-called satellites was "too little and too twisted. Mrs. Eaton and her multimil lionaire husband have attracted international attention because of their views on communism and ways to achieve peace. "If our democracy is to com pete with communism," Mrs. Ea ton said, "it is essential to know what we're competing with." She said that she and her husband went to Europe last spring to see for themselves the conditions in Poland, Czechoslo vakia, East Germany and Hun gary. Her husband is chairman of Chesapeake & Ohio Railway and has many interests in mining and steel. Mr, and Mrs. Ltemrd Lark and Guy, have returned home from a four days deer hunt in tne Vne- mault area. Mr. and Mrs. Jo Whit spent the weekend in Medford as the guests of the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Frost. Mr. and Mrs. D. Bliss Sacoy left Thursday for Santa Rosa. Calif., to attend the wedding of their son, Charles, which loos place during the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Ret and children have returned to their home in Eugene after spending Sunday here with Mrs. Rose a par eats, Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Lestico. Mrs. A. P. DIHtr of Redondo Beach. Calif., arrived in Roseburg Sunday to visit for two weeks at the home of her son-in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Al San ders. Mrs. Diller is the former Anna Wright. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Noltt and son. Paul, drove to Ashland Saturday to see the Southern Oregon-fort land State college football game. The Noltes' son. Ray. is Playing defensive halfback on tne first string of the SOC varsity team. Mr. and Mrs. Kaith Benson and children, Danny, Walter, Becky, Linda. Randall. Johnnie. Leslie, Keith Jr. and Sherri, have moved here from Bodaga Bay, cam., and are making their temporary home m Winston. Keiui is tne son oi Mrs. Ruben Benson of Roseburg, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Another Klamath Hunter Bags 2 Bucks On 1 Shot KLAMATH FALLS (AP) A Young Klamath Falls hunter bagged two buck deer with one shot Saturday. It was the second time this had happened in the week-old Oregon deer season. Jim Floren. 14. ion of Mr. and Mrs. Axel Floren. was hunting with his father in the Lee Thomas meadows near Bly, about 50 miles east of here, when his single bul let broueht down two side-by-side bucks. He said it was the first time he had ever fired at a buck. On the season's opening day Wayne Diller, a Grants Pass high school junior, similarly got two for one. PAY HIKE FOR MEDICS LONDON (AP) Britain's 40, 000 hospital and family doctors have voted to accept pay creases averaging $1,260 a year. The raise from the state-run health service will make the aver age physician a salary $0,790. Overturning Auto Kills Its Owner In Lane County EUGENE (AP) A station wagon went out of control on Highway 99 near Cottage Grove in a driving rain Saturday, flipped end over end and Killed a bheiton, Wash., man. The victim was Marion R. Speece, 53. His wife, Lucille, 50, and an other passenger, Mable E. Aitken 51, also ot btienon, were Hospital ized at Cottage Grove with- non critical hurts. State police said Speece car, northbound, plunged down a 15- foot embankment as it left the hiehway. went end over end sev eral times, and came to rest on its top. All three occupants were thrown out and Speeca was crushed under tne car. It was the seventh fatal acci dent this year on the stretch of new highway starting at Goshen, four miles from Eugene, to just south of Cottage Grove. Eleven persons died in the seven acci dents. Speece was the fourth October highway victim in Oregon and the 330th of the year in the Associated Press tabulation. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Schffr of Corvallis were recent weekend vis itors here at the home of the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Schaeffer. It was the heaviest attack: against the offshore islands since the massive bombardments which the Communists uncorked on June 17 and 19 as an avowed gesture against President Eisen hower's Formosa visit. Tom Harrfiel, candidate for dis trict judge, left for Portland Sat urday morning to attend tne Knights of Pythias Grand Lodge convention. He will go as a dele gate from the local lodge. Hart fiel is being accompanied by John D. Hess of Roseburg, also a dele gate. The two men expect to re turn home Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. W.ndt of Monterey Park, Calif., arrived in Roseburg Wednesday for several days' visit at the home of Mr.! and Mrs. H. R. Lestico. Monterey Park is the former home of the Lesticos and the two men worked together for many years before Mr. and Mrs. Lestico moved to Roseburg. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Mhan were in Eugene during the week end to visit their daughter, Carol, and Mrs. Meettan's Drother, Tom had the pleasure of seeing Sirs. Meehan'a parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Welborn, who had just arrived from their home in Dillon, Mont., to visit. The senior Wel borns will be in Roseburg soon to spend some time at the Meehan home. Carl Haskin, 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Haskin, returned to Roseburg Friday after a stay in a Portland hospital where he under went leg surgery Sept. 21. Hit mother remained in Portland with him during the time he was hos pitalized. Harold Haskin and A. E. Messenger went to Portland to bring back Carl and his mother. Carl, who is in a body cast, will be confined to his home for sev eral months.
