Mon Oct. 10, I960 Joint Officer Installation Takes Place Monday Evening The Woodmen Circle Umpqua Grove 51 met with Sunset Grove 52 from Sulherlin Monday evening at Evergreen Granije Hall in Win ton for joint installation of offi cers. Mr. Zelda K. Puekett, state manager and national committee woman from Portland, acted as in stalling officer and she was as sisted by Mrs. Avis Warren, slate president and Mrs. Kffie Freeman, state secretary, both from Eu gene. The following were Installed: Phebe McGuire, president; Bea trice Cornilsen and Daisy Godfrey, past presidents; Ethel Slabaugh and Lucille Evans, first vice pros ident; Marjorie Doyle, second vice president: Besse Cornish, attend ant; Robbie Lee Cooper, assistant attendant; Lucy Benson and Carol Ward, corresponding and record ing secretary; Viola White, treas urcr; Sarah Cyrus and Edith Wor man. chaplain: Arthur McGuire auditor: Ruby Tucker and Aloha McCord, captains; and Alma Walker, musician. The drill team, Umpqua Squaws, were announced as follows: Con' nie Kingry, Rachel Tanner, Ger trude Hess, Bella Holm, Evelyn Croucher, Agnes Veach, Ann Strong and Alice Chrislenson. Mrs. Mary Barley and state musician, Mrs. Elizabeth Fero from Veneta, were among the dis tinguished guests present. The service club Work Basket meeting which was scheduled for Tuesday Oct. 18, will be postpon ed, in order that the Umpqua Squaws and Mrs. McGuire may go to hugene to assist with joint in stallation for the Eugene and Ve neta groves. A costume Halloween party will be held at the home of Mrs, John Cornilsen for members the eve ning of Monday, Oct. 24. She will be assisted by Alma Walker and Lucy Benson. Officers and committee members have been invited to the home of Mrs. McGuire. Thursday. Oct. 13, at 7:30 to discuss plans for the coming year and to familiarize themselves with their particular duties. A delightful social hour was en joyed following the installation ceremony and regular business meeting. Pink And Blue Shower Given For Mrs. Albro Mrs. Dick Willey and Mrs. Wade Ilendercr were co hostesses recent ly at a pink and blue shower for Mrs. Francis Albro at the Elkton home of Mrs. Willey. Nineteen guests were present. Several games were enjoyed by the guests followed by the guest of honor opening her many lovely gifts. Re freshments were served by the nostesses. PATRONIZE NEW-REVIEW ADVERTISERS Medford Girl Honored At Lovely Shower At Glendale Miss Sandra Johns of Medford was honored at a bridal shower given at the 100F Hall in Glen dale Friday evening. Miss Johns, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Johns of Glendale, will be mar ried Sunday afternoon, Oct. 9 to Douglas Cameron of Medford. The ceremony will take place at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Medford. Hostesses for the shower were Mrs. Jimmy Johns, Mrs. Life Ed son, Mrs. James Kimbrough, Mrs. Walter Reynolds. Mrs. Harold Stapleton and Mrs. Steve Sutch. Mrs. J. D. Shepherd won the game prize. Miss Keys Complimented By Shower Wednesday Miss Roberta Keys was honored Wednesday evening at a charming bridal shower given at the Glide Community Hall by Mix Ivan Clason, Mable Elliott and M r s. Beautiful arrangements of fall leaves, and gladioli were used about the hall, and centering the gift table was an arrangement of of a miniature bassinet with very Duplicate Series For Junior Club Started Nine tables were in play at the Junior Duplicate Bridge Club Monday evening, which marked the first game of a series to be held and which will produce in dividual winners. Players participating in the se ries will count five best scores out of six games. The five games counted are to be played with dif ferent partners for each game. The contest does not affect the regular routine of 'veekly play, but is a means of amassing additional points and offers participants a varying interest in the game. All players, whether or not they play in the series, will receive the usual points and prizes for winner scores in each Monday night game. This present marathon contest is the third conducted for players in the Junior Club. An autumn party with special Square Dancing " Lessons Slated The Buckeroo Sauare Dance Club will start beginner's classes Oct. 18 and 19 from 8 to 10 p.m. at the club's barn just north of Roscburg on Old Highway 99. Curley Reynolds, club caller, will be instructor. By the first of the year class members will be invited to attend the cluu s special dances and parties free of charge and after their graduation will be invited to join the membership. Anyone wishing to near more about this opportunity to learn to square dance and have a grand time doing it is invited to drop in at the Buckeroo Barn any Satur day night after 9 p.m. and watch the dancing and get acquainted; or attend the first lessons on the above dates. Golden Age Clubbers Giiests At Housewarming On Tuesday evening Mr. and Mrs. Karl Crandall and their niece, Mrs. Grace Pretre of Idaho, wel comed the Golden Age Club at a lovely housewarming party given in their spacious home at 500 W. Umpqua Ave. A short meeting preceded the evening of fun. Miss Catherine Fer guson conducting the session in the absence of President Micclli and vice president Downs. Card games and visiting were enjoyed as guests partook of light refreshments. The next meeting date Is Oct. U, the place to be announced later. master point play will be held Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 7:15 p.m. at the Elks Club. Friday, Oct. 14 will be the regular master point play for the month at 12:30 noon at the Elks Club. Rands Observe 30th Anniversary In celebration 'of their 30th wed ding anniversary, Oct. 4th, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence K. Rand were the host and hostess for a party given at their home at 345 W. Lilburn Ave. In honor of the occasion Mrs. Earl Oderkirk made and served a beautifully decorated four-tiered cake. Cards of congratulations were presented to the honored couple and the evening was spent visiting and playing cards.
