To Porter Coffers
' JACKSONVILLE, Ore. (AP)
Dr. Edwin Durno, Republican
candidate for Congress from the
4lh District, handed a campaign
contribution to his opponent, Rep.
Charles 0. Porter, at a meeting
Thursday night.
He said it was in response to a
letter he received at his home in
Jledford, asking for it. Dr. Durno
said the letter came from Porter's
headquarters.
The contribution was a $1 check.
Porter endorsed it and handed it
back.
The two men spoke before the
Northwestern Mining Council dis
cussing problems of the industry
in this area.

in Portland attending to business.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Soulla are
back at their home in Roseburg,
following a successful hunting trip
in Eastern Oregon and a visit
with the former's parents in Kla
math County.
John Benson, 60, chief of man
ual arts therapy at the VA Hos
pital, is expected back to work
Monday. Benson broke both arms
in an accident which occurred at
a VA Employe Assn. skating party
last week. After a short stay in a
local hospital, he has been recu
perating: at home.

who recently suffered a fractured
skull and a fractured pelvis in a
fall from a tree is reported to be
getting along satisfactorily at Mer
cy Hospital, where he is receiving
treatment.

the Nile, will hold a rummage
sale Saturday, Oct. IS, at 249 SE
Jackson, next door ..to Priscilla's
Antique Shop. The sale will be
in progress from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Those having rummage are asked
to leave it at the above mentioned
shop.

children, Terry and Bobby, of San
Leandro, Calif., visited here re
cently at the home of Mrs. Stew
art's brother and sister-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Jack May. The Stew
arts were en route to . Lewiston,
Idaho, to see Mrs. Stewart's par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Warney Mays,
and other relatives in the area.

a medical patient at Sacred Heart
Hopital. Mr. and Mrs. Michaels
were en route to Roseburg and
Canyonville to visit relatives and
mends Deiore continuing on a trip
to Kansas, when Michaels was
stricken ill in Eugene.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Pollard and
children, Linda and Robin, have
left after a few days' visit here
at the home of Pollard s brother
and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Art Pollard. The family was en
route to Macon. Ga.. alter having
spent the past lta years in Hawau
where Bob Pollard, Western Union
emDlove. was working at a U. S.
Air Force base. They plan to visit
on the west coast before leaving

Mrs. Bruce MIchels left Wednes
day for Long Beach, Calif., after
several days spent in Roseburg

other relatives. Mrs. Michels was
called here by the sudden death
of her father, Edwin Myers, whose
funeral was last week,
Mrs. Vera Thompson, field rep
resentative from Portland for the
Visionally Handicapped, will be in
Roseburg next week and Wednes
day will hold a workshop from
iu a.m. to it p.m. at me f irst
Presbyterian Church. The work
shop is under the auspices of the
Roseburg Lions Auxiliary and the
Oregon Commission For the Blind.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Tisdale are
back in their home In Roseburg,
following a vacation trip to Cali
fornia. They went as far south as
Los Angeles. In Sunnyvale they
visited their son-in-law and daugh
ter, Kir. and Kirs. A. J. Donze,
and in San Jose with their son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.
J. J. Potlenger.
The First Annual Fall Festival
of Philetarian Lodge No. 8 will
be held at the IOOF Temple Wed
nesday, Oct. 12, according to an
Announcement by the noble grand,
Jim Flynn. A free turkey and
ham dinner wul be served at 7
p.m. followed by a program of
music and other interesting en
tertainment at 8 p.m.

County Librarian, is back in her
office, following attendance at the
Pacific Northwest Library Associ
ation meeting at Sun Valley, Idaho.

of the Museum of Art. Mrs. Ford
is a board member. From Eugene
she went to Lebanon to visit her
parents. Mr. and Mrs. James T.
Brown, and with the Ethan Hall
fumily before continuing on to Cor-
vallis to visit her son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Kent Phil
lips, and small son.
Mrs. Danny McCauley and two
children have been visiting in Ken-
newick, Wash., this week at the
home of Mrs. McCauley's brother-in-law
and sister, Mr. and Kirs.

Friday morning to go deer hunting
in the Lakcview area. They expect
to return home Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Mtrl Mulhelland
and daughter. Maria, and Mrs. W.
J. Mulholland spent last weekend
in Eastern Oregon. They brought
home a nice mule deer.
Mrs. Edna Rex left Monday with
her son-in-law and daughter, Kir.
and Mrs. Jon Dowles of Hood Riv
er to attend to business in Fresno,
Calif, and from there they will
tour several Southern slates end
ing in Florida, where they will
vacation for about a month.
