The Camas Valley Grange Boost
er Night program was termed
highly successful by those attend
ing the event. A potluck dinner
was attended by 73 persons.
The teachers and other school
personnel had been the invited
guests for the evening and were
introduced by Mrs. Leslie Catch
pole. L
Mrs. Ron Ross, grange lecturer,
presented a most enjoyable pro
gram. Oregon State Grange Lecturer,
Victor Croxton from Central Point,
was guest speaker. He congratu
lated members of the Camas Val
ley Grango upon placing second in
tue annually Held community
ice contest, sponsored by the Na
tional Grange and Scars Roebuck.
He explained the role of the Grange
in various political matters, and
used as an example the "Initative,
Referendum and Recall" that Ore
gon State electors have.
Secretary Guy Moore told of the
Camas Valley Grange organization,
and its role in community service
activities.
Mrs. Donald Lawson, HEC chair
man, told of tho activities of the
37 members of Uie club, and how
they aid the subordinate grange.
Bruce Lamm, a member of the
Camas Valley Juvenile Grange,
sang "Battles of New Orleans."
Lee Banks and Louis Papst sang
a duct, accompanied by Mrs. Rus
sell Harwood at the piano. Group
singing led by Mrs. Ross, was en
joyed. Ernest Booth presented a
well received magic act. A read
ing waa given by Moore. The pro
gram was concluded by a trio,
Mrs. Ron Ross, Mrs, Donald Law
son and Mrs. Marion Rcntz, sing
ing "Mansion Over the Hilltop."
They were accompanied by Steve
Grimm.

91st Birthday Occasion For
Family Party At Dixonville
Mrs. J. F. (Lillie Ann) Strader
celebrated her 91st birthday at her.
home on the Oak Creek near Dix
onville Sept. 26. ' Her sons and
daughters and their families gath
ered at her home the Sunday be
fore her birthday to honor the oc
casion. Mrs. Strader, who has lived her
entire life in Douglas County, was
born at Melrose, the daughter of
Frazier and Polly Ann Ward, early
day pioneers. Mrs. Ward was a
daughter of Hoy Flournoy, the first
settler of the valley, which bears
his name. -
In 1892 Lillie Ann Ward was mar
ried to John Strader and moved
to Oak Creek where she has lived
since that time on the Strader do
nation land claim. Mr. Strader
died in 1936.
' Mrs. Strader enjoys excellent
health and does her own house
keeping for herself and son, Roy.
She also cares for a large flower
garden.
On her birthday she received
many gifts, flowers and cards. A
beautifully decorated birthday cake
was served with a potluck dinner
to the following members of her
family: Mr. and Mrs. Phil Morris
of Portland; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey
Cochram of Oakland; their daugh
ter and her family, Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Mason, and daughters, Nan

The Roseburg Christian Women's
Club met Wednesday at the Rose
burg Women's Club building.
Tables were cleverly decorated
with small fences entwined with
flowers to carry out the month's
theme of "Gardening."
Mrs. Clifford Domas sang a solo,
accompanied at the piano by Mrs.
Homer Grow.
Airs. Dale Hatfield, well-known
amateur gardener, spoke on the
subject of winterizing home gar
dens and planning spring plantings.
Featured speaker was Mrs. Lar
ry Gordon, who, with her husband,
is operator of radio station KWIL
of Albany. Airs. Gordon discussed
the change in policy of the station.
The next meeting of the club will
be at the Women's Club building
Wednesday, Oct. 12, and will fea
ture Bill Jackson who has studied
with John Charles Thomas and
who was a brilliant operatic bari
tone. He is now a full time singer
of spiritual music.
