The purpose of the Post Office
Department' "new look" is to
achieve "next day delivery of let
ter mail anywhere in the United
States."
This was the gist of a speech by
Edward Komp, regional field serv
ices officer from Eugene, who was
the featured speaker at the dedi
cation of the new Idleyld Park Post
Office Saturday afternoon.

Theda Losee, postmaster of the
new post office, as one of these.

Komp outlined the new look for
the federal postal agency as an ef
fort to achieve improved and ef
ficient mail service and modern
postal facilities, such as the Idle
yld Park Post Office.
He culled the Saturday dedica
tion "further recognition of the
growth of the American postal sys
tem and its contribution to the
development of the expanding
American economy."
County Judge V. T. Jackson was
master of ceremonies and recalled
his personal experiences with the
postal facilities in the Idleyld park
area in the early 1900s. He said
he had helped one-armed Burley
Wright pull the ferry across the
river and had joked with mail car
rier Jim Hayes with his two-wheeled
cart and burro.
Introduced during the dedication
were Postmaster Losee and former
postmasters Mrs. Mable McMil
len, Mrs. Mamie Sendelbach and
Mrs. Agnes Moore, former Rose
burg postmaster Clyde Carstens
and Roseburg acting postmaster,
Norman Hess.
The dedication proved a lure for
political candidates too. Introduc
ed were sheriff candidates Ira
Byrd and Carl Smith, county com
missioner candidate Huron Clough
and district judge candidate Tom
Hartfiel. Civil Defense Director Ar
thur Selby of Glide was also in
troduced. Entertainment at the dediration
was provided by the Glide High

Scientists Think Soviets May Have Man In Space
JODRELL BANK, England
(AP) A lending British scientist
said today the Russians may have
put a man in space.
Prot. Bernard Lovell, director
of the Jodrell Bunk radio tele
scope, said he has no evidence
that the Russians had done this
but added:
"If I did know I would not be
surprised."
Lovell said he certainly expects
the Russians to rocket a man Into
space before the year's end if
they have not done it already.
Lovell did not discuss reports
of sighting of unidentified objects
over the United States but sug
gested they may not prove sig
nificant. "We have not picked up any
object on the telescope," he said.
