Sept. 10 Wedding Lovely The double ring service was used Saturday, Sept. 10, for the wedding of Shirley Kicdlingcr of Portland, daughter of Mr. umi Mrs. G. Kicd linger of Mott, N.D., and Kred Ilaris Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hargis of this city. The cere mony took place at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Kalher Buckley officiating at the 2 p.m. service. White dahlias and red and while gladioli were used in the church decorations. "The Lord's Prayer" and "Ave Maria" were sung by Wayne Wagner, accompanied by Mrs. l' 13. Moore. The bride was charming In the gown which had been worn by her sister at her wedding. The dress was floor-length, four layers of net covering the satin underskirt. The bodice was designed with a sweet heart neckline. A tiara of pearls held in place her filmy veil. She carried n cascade bouquet of while carnations encircling a while or chid. The bride was given In mar riage by her brother-in-law. Ger ald Power of Yakima, Wash. Matron of honor was Mrs. Or and Power, sister of die bride. Bridesmaids were Patricia Van Mole of Portland and Mrs. I.eroy llarrel of Oswego. Al were charm ing in street-length dresses of red satin. Thev wore matching head nieces and carried bouquets of white carnations with red stream ers. Sally Hargis. sister of the bridegroom, was flower girl. Perry De-Grout was best man Vshcra were Jim Schaeffer of Cor vallis and Kred ltawson. Mrs. Mildred Nagel of Portland represented the bride's mother' who was unable to come west lor me wedding. The red and while color scheme was carried out in the decora tions at the reception held at the Hargis home following the cere mony. Young at her beautiful home on SK Flint Street Monday in compliment to her niece, Mrs. Harry Gregg, of San Diegu, who with her husband have been visiting here for the last month and who plan to leave Sun day for their home in Southern Cal ifornia. Lovely shades of asters formed the centerpiece for the beautifully appointed table. Covers were plac ed for Mrs. Gregg, guest of honor; Mrs. Cliff Thornton, Mrs. S. J.. Cooper, Mrs. A. Morning Parties Held At Tenmile Helen Young entertained at a toy party Friday morning at her home in Tenmile. Doris Dwight won the prize. Delicious refreshments were served to Barbara Kinnan, Keith and Kathie; Marlene Smith, Janis Marie and Scully; Vivian Nuzuin, Donnie and Jimmy; Norma Dwight and l.on; Audrey Centers, Aliene Fisher, Chaiiotle Nuzum, Hazel Wafer. Luncheon Meet Occurs Tuesday The Azalea Rural Women's Club held a luncheon meeting Tuesday afternoon at the Azalea Grange Hall. Gloria Winniford of Cen tral Point was the speaker. An extra feature of interest was the showing of hat styles by the representative of a Roseburg shop. Mrs. Clarence Clayton and Mis. Paul Schimp assisted her as mod els to demonstrate the hats. Ap proximately 5(1 ladies were present. Mrs. Clarence Smith had charge of the dinner, with various mem beta of the group helping to pro vide the food and serve it. Mrs Paul Schimp was chairman of the decoration committee. F.ach table held vases of gladioli or roses. (BOB) HESS ore pictured above at their wedding reception at the home of the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roswell J. Caulk, in Palo Alto, Calif., Aug. 28. The bride, Suzanne Harriet Caulk, and the bridegroom are both students at Foothill College. The latter is the only son of Mrs. Helen Hess of Los Altos and Dr. O. R. Hess of Tacoma, Wash. He is a pre-med student. Mr. and Mrs. Hess will be at home to friends in Mountain View, Calif. Marietta Now Mrs. The wedding of Miss Marietta Munson and Leslcr Gardner was solemnized Saturday, Aug. 27, at 1:30 p.m. in the First Christian Church at Koscburg. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Munson of Rose burg. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Gardner of Coquille. The church was beautifully decor ated with tall baskets of white gladioli and yellow Esther Keed daisies. The two candelabra were lighted before the ceremony by Glenda Wills and Janice Grey, both in yellow taffeta sheaths, with lace overskirts and yellow hals and wristlets of white and vellow carnations. On the pews were yel low taffeta bows with clusters of daisies in the center. Mrs. S. Clarence Trued played the traditional wedding music. Wayne Mosher sang "You'll Never Walk Alone," preceding the serv ices, and he sang the "Lord's Prayer" while the couple knelt for prayer. The Rev. James Smith of the Christian Church of Hoseburg of ficiated in the double ring cere mony. The bride, escorted to the altar hv her falher. was beautiful in her ballerina-length dress of white Al- encon lace over talfeta with a tit ted bodice, three-quarter length sleeves, sabrina neckline and a full flared skirt. Her fingertip illusion veil was held in place by a crown of sequins and pearls. She carried a white Bible with yellow roses and slephenotis. She also" carried an heirloom handkerchief belonging to the bridegroom's mother. The maif of honor, Wilnia Jean Marshall of Roseburg and t h e bridesmaids, Theda Balzar of Port Orford and Les Marshall of Rose burg, were dressed alike in yellow taffeta, styled with flared skirts and lace bodices with cmpirc waisllines. They carried nosegays of white daisies and yellow lace frills. Their hals were lace petals and daisy centers. All were de signed and made by the mother of the bridegroom. G. W. McNeelv was best man Palo Alto Munson Gardner and the ushers were Robert Wilson and Addison Talbot, all of Rose burg. Mrs. Munson eho.se a sandalwood embroidered silk sheath with cin namon accessories for her daugh ter's wedding. The bridegroom's mother was attractively gowned in rose-beige silk. Both wore cor sages of pink rubrum lilies. Mrs. B. C. Martig of Rosemcad, Calif., wore a blue lace dress with pink accessories. Mrs. George Munson of Umpqua was in navy with white hat and gloves. Both are grand mothers of the bride. The reception followed in the fellowship rooms-of the church, which had been beautifully decor ated with flowers and candles in the bride's color scheme of white and yellow. It was catered by Irene Jackson of Roseburg. The while satin cloth with an organdy skirt, held the silver candelabra and yellow candles. The three-tiered wedding cake, lopped with three yellow lace bells, was designed and made by Raymond Nichols. Mrs. Charles Doerner of Mel rose, great-aunt of the bride, serv ed coffee; Mrs. Floyd Crawford of Kureka, Calif., the punch, and Mrs. H. W. Conn, an aunt, and her daughter, Lynettc, served the cake. Mrs. Larry Kvidera and Car ol Baumann both of Wren, Ore., were at the gift table and Mildred Hayes was in charge of the guest hook. Little Marilyn and Diane Baumann also of Wren, passed the bridegroom's cake. For going away, the bride wore a cinnamon sheath with a bolero jacket, white accessories and a green orchid corsage. The young people spent their honeymoon in Victoria, B.C., and in various plac es in Washington and Oregon. Glen da Willis caught the bride's bou quet. Out-of-town guests were: Mr. and Mrs. L. Gardner, Coquille; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Baumann and Jim. Carol, Diane and Marilyn of Wren; John Pruess of Harbor; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Crawford, Eureka, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Cooney, Medford; Mr. and Mrs. Werner Erickson, Coos Bay; and Arnold Baumann, tor. and Mrs. George Baumann and Albertina Ralph all of Salem. About 130 guests allcnd ed. The bride, recently of Umpqua, was graduated from Roseburg High School and is at present work ing in the office of the Douglas County Welfare Dept. The bride groom, after serving several years in the U.S. Army, was graduated from Oregon Stale College and is now employed by the Oregon State Welfare office in Roseburg. The newlyweds have purchased a new mobile home and plan to make their home in Roseburg. Imitations Highlight Rebekah Lodge Meeting Glendale Mountaineer Rebekah Lodge met at the IOOF Hall in Glendale Thursday evening. Glad ys Reynolds, vice grand, presided at the meeting in the absence of Mrs. Ben Whaley. After the meeting, the Friend ship Club honored the seven FL Club members who were present. Each club memher imitated a .fa mous TV star and prizes were giv en to Gladys Reynolds and Phyllis Booth for the best renditions. A wedding of much interest in Roseburg took place at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Palo Alto, Calif., Aug. 28, when Richard Rob ert Hess, formerly of Roseburg and now of Los Altos, Calif., took as his bride, lovely Suzanne Harriet Caulk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roswell J. Caulk, of Palo Alto. Canon Edwin E. West officiated at the impressive double ring cere mony at 3 p.m. Gladioli formed the floral ar rangements at the altar. The bride, entering the church on the arm of her father, was beautiful in a gown of white lace fashioned ballet length. She wore a veu of illusion and carried white asters and stcph anotis, Wendy L. Caulk was maid of hon or for her younger sister. She wore a dress of pale blue embossed sat in complimented by yellow isters in her Colonial bouquet. Two bridesmaids, Susan Hess of Los Altos, sister of the bridegroom, and Nancy Caulk, Palo Alto, sister of the bride, wore dresses designed to match that worn by the maid of honor. They also carried yellow asters. Best man was Anthony L. West of Los Altos and ushers were Gary Fisk of Palo Alto; Robert Ben nett of Sunnyvale and Robert Caulk, brother of the bride, Palo Alto. Gladioli, asters and slock decor ated the Palo Alto home of the bride parents, where the recep tion followed. For traveling the bride chose a flowered beige silk suit. Following a honeymoon to Fallen Leaf Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Hess are now at home to friends in Mountain View, Calif. The bridegroom is the only son of Mrs. Helen Hess of Los Altos and Dr. O. R. Hess of Tacoma, Wash. He was graduated from Roseburg High School and is now a pre-med student at Foothill Col lege. The bride was graduated in 1959 from Palo Alto High School and has completed her first year at foothill College, where he ma jor is liberal arts. Teachers Greeted Vednesaay Night The first fall meeting of the Win ston School r TA was held at the Winston School Wednesday even ing, when teachers were honored by a reception. Entertainment was provided by the singing of two solos by r red Bates. Each person was, presented with an oak leaf name badge by the hospitality chairman, Mrs. John Clossen. Delicious refreshments were served. Mrs. Al Daniels, president for the year, announced her committee chairmen as follows: Mrs. Edward Poetter, ways and means; Mrs. John Clossen. hospitality: Mrs llartsell Walker, membership and Mrs. K. S. Lansing, historian. Of' ficers serving with Mrs. Daniels are as follows; Mrs. Kay Oliver, vice president; Mrs. Hank Carew secretary; and Wilbur Bushong treasurer. The next meeting will he held at the Winston School, Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 8 p. m. Shivels Feted At Lovely Dinner Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hughes of Del Rio Road entertained a group of friends Monday evening at a surprise farewell dinner honoring Mr. and Mrs. Merrell Shively. ihe patio dinner was served to 15 guests. A lovely car robe in lea ther case was presented to the couple by the group. Mr. and Mrs. Shively, who have resided in Roseburg for the past 12 years, will make their home in Lafollelte, Tenn. Their address will be 124 N. Tennessee Ave. in care of Conlev Bowman. Enjoying the dinner besides the host and hostess and honor guests were Ellen and Elaine Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Sweeley and Larry, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ram mage and Jim, Mrs. Flora Mil- tonberger and Gerald thompson. Joining in presenting the gift were Mr. and Mrs. Grady Kane and son, although they were un able to attend. Bridge-Luncheon Given Thursday Thursday Mrs. John H. Robin son entertained her bridge club at a charming 1 o'clock luncheon at her lovely home. Guests were Mrs. J. R. Wharton and the hostess' husband, John II. Robinson, who filled in for one of the club mem bers. Lovely autumn flowers formed the decorations. Members present besides Mrs. Robinson were Miss Helen Casey, Mrs. Arthur Clarke, Mrs. Arthur W. Baum, Mrs. W. F. Chapman and Mrs. A. A. Wilder. High scores for the afternoon's contract bridge play were won by Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. Wharton with second high scores being won by Mrs. Chapman and Mr. Robin son. Sutherlin Couple Married Aug. 24 Members of the immediate fam ilies of Miss Billie Petty and Pat rick Terrel were present for their wedding Wednesday, Aug. 24, at the home of the bride's parents in Sutherlin. The nuptials were per formed at 7:30 p.m., the Rev. Robinson of the First Christian Church of Sutherlin officiating at the double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Petty and the bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Terrel, all of Suth erlin. Late summer flowers provided a pretty background for the cere mony. The bride was charming in a gown of champagne taffeta. She wore pink accessories and carried a white Bible. She was attended by her sister, Mrs. Richard Geary, who wore a becoming blue floral taffeta frock. Mike Terrel acted as best man for his brother. The bride's mother wore a brown two-piece dress wilh bicge acces sories. The bridegroom's mother was ciad in blue and wore white accessories.
